I thought baring "pop" from say people like The Beatles and other obvious talents, pop music has always been lowest common denominator, intended to sell to the most people, and most people in my experience and possibly including myself, are dumb.

The Beatles could play instruments, Ringo is an established drumming legend etc. Not only that but they brought revolutionary recording techniques in the studios. Today I see a lot of pop stars playing air vagina and not much else. Also so many rap ''artists'' who all sound exactly the same, most of them seem like they spit in triplets and that's about it.

These days many pretend to success, because the charts now use youtube and spotify plays as a measure of success, as opposed to selling records. Or other ''artists'' such as Justin Bieber, buying his plays and likes from some Vietnamese website that "specialises" in generating plays and likes. The Beatles would bury these stats easily.

There's good pop, and then there's the rest of the fad music garbage industry. It's nothing new, I remember in the 80-90s seeing piles of records that were discarded by clubs because they were excrement in vinyl form. Clubs got them promo records for free, would not play them or they would kill the floor empty. Same all today, lots of wannabe out there, lately in the UK you see that Jessy Nelson nobody who sums up the ailing UK industry. Quitting a poundshop band to go make a poundshop bin solo record that nobody wants while plastering herself on social media trying to get some momentum on hot air. Then if you remove the sound engineer they will give as much a performance as Vicky "mime" Beckam during her time as a stage prop with the spice girls...

I like pop, but the kind that is played by genuine artists playing instruments and able to deliver an actual performance, instead of that Xfactor glitz or Dog Got Talent TV shows. Beatles, Prince, Madonna, Tina Turner, U2, Rolling Stones, The Police, AC/DC, Pearl Jam, Guns and Roses, REM, Depeche Mode, The Cure, Coldplay, Beastie Boys, Red Hot Chili Peppers, etc. Real popular pop where people buy the records.

On the other hand, "twerk" and "grime". McDonalds music. As seen on youtube (bonus game, spot the product placements).
