Numark Axis 8 or 9 Vs. Denon S1000

Going for table top CD players... think I have narrowed down to these three. I don't plan on scratching (at least I don't think). Will use mostly for mixing. Which of these do you recommend for best bang for the buck? And does anyone know of anywhere to get these for lower than normal cost? I have been looking at 123dj.com but can't find the Axis 8's. I figure the Axis 9's and S1000 are the same price. Mixers will be next.

Thanks,,,

Hawk

I use axis 9's and untill the s1000's came out on the market they were the best deal out there, however they have rather unreliable software. The denon s1000 is like a stripped down version of its big brothers the s3000 and s5000, useing the same software and internal workings. I would definetly recommond the s1000. I myself plan on eventually selling my axis 9's and getting a pair of the s1000's once i get the funds to do so, which because of my list of things to do might take a while lol.

The axis 8 are nice and a bit cheaper than the Denon

But I would choose the Denon over it, because I like what it has to offer, I own a higher end Denon CD player and it seems better (havnt tried it yet)

I doubt the 1000 is using the same internal workings as the 3's and 5's or even the same software. It's completly different from what I know.

Wow... I just took a trip to Guitar Center to check out some of the decks for the first time. I played around with the Axis 9 and S1000. I think I like the S1000 better... both of the scratching features for both were a little wack (but I don't have much use for anyway). Man, I wish I was rich.... those S5000's are sick awesome. They were all I could think about when I was walking out. The quality is 1000000% better than the others I was looking at.... damit! The Pioneer CDJ-800's were pretty trick also... again very nice quality. I was not real pleased that the Axis 9's had an actual tray that comes out like a rack unit. The S1000's you just slide in like a car cd player (nice). I was thinking of getting a package deal the the Axis 8's but may just suck it up, wait and get what I want... either the S1000's or save a bit more and get teh CDJ-800's or save alot more and get the S3000's or S5000's (not likely). They did not have the S3000's ... what is the difference between the S3000 and S5000? Anything major?

Those video's were awesome... looks like you only need one ... if you can do all that with one.. why do you need two??? Probably seems like a dumb question but then again I am new to all this..

Thanks for humoring me ...

So Silvio is the s1000 pretty much the same as the s3000 without the platter or are there significant differences in whats inside the thing?

Hey Denon,

Do you have some extra demo S1000, S3000 or S5000's laying around at work that you could send me so I can write a article/ continuous review on? I can do it from the perspective of a newbie and track my progress and how the right gear plays a critical part in my progress.

If you want to take this offline email me...

Thanks,
Hawk

Denon,

No problem, I figured as much but thought it was worth a try. Hopefully I can pick up some S1000's before the end of the year.

Thanks,
Hawk

im also thinking of getting the dns1000. I dj hip hop and have 1210's but want to get one so thant I can play more tracks that you cant get on vinyl.
Has the dns1000 got pitch lock on it so i can speed up the cd without it sounding shit??
Also will it be any good for turntablism?? the odd beat juggle or scratch???

cheers

The other Denons have the "key adjust" (pitch lock) feature and Silvio didnt mention that as an advantage of the 3000 over the 1000 - so I *assume* the 1000 has that feature too.

Personally I would (read: did) choose the 3000 over the 1000 if you interested in doing any scratching or similar.. although it lacks many of the 1000's effects and an extra hot start - the moving platter is much better for scratching and juggling.

You can still scratch on the 1000 (there are videos somewhere) but I've heard you have to keep pressed down on the platter a bit - which a lot of people dont like. Also because the platter doesnt move the only reference point you'll have for your scratches will be the time display.

For pure mixing, I would choose the Denon, because of the features it offers over both Numarks.

the dns1000 looks pretty good from the video considering its a fairly cheap cd deck.

Fusic: how much better than is the 3000 that the 1000 at scratching as shown on the video??

Are there any videos of the 3000- knocking bout? ive tried getting onto the denon site but it isnt letting me in.

There aren't any videos of the 3000 that I'm aware of but there are plenty of the 5000 which for scratching purposes is exactly the same (though the 5000 has a forward scratch mode).

Most the good videos are from DJ AL or DJ shy...

Here are 2 on AL's musicv2 page you find plenty more if you look around www.denondjforums.com

http://www.musicv2.com/mp3_request.m...CD_Scratch.wmv

http://www.musicv2.com/mp3_request.m...j_shy-show.wmv

This is the page to go to for the comparisons charts and full specs of Denon DJ products..

that video of al n the other bloke cutting it up is well fat,

i think its gota be the 3000. I could do shit like recording my own samples and then cut them up pretty much the same as a turntable.
