Does anyone else think forest raves are immoral?

So you're chilling at home, trying to hatch your eggs, and maybe catch some works, and all the sudden

DOOF DOOF DOOF DOOF DOOF DOOF DOOF

and a bunch of lasers and colored lights start messing with your cognition and your tree starts to vibrate from the bass.

That's pretty f'd up if you ask me.

Not to mention all the trash and shit they bring with them.

It's pretty wrong if they're setting up shop in the middle of a forest. Especially if they drive off road or something.

I suppose if it has been OKd by the park and authoroties then it would be ok...

lol never thought about it that way...

I say they are just inconvenient. Given that you need electricity, you need to make sure it doesn't rain, there's probably going to be bugs n shit, and if it's a good party then the cops are going to ruin it...

...just rent a warehouse or something?

I think as long as it's agreed with the land owner and the promoter, then it's all good.

I haven't been to an outdoor event yet where the patrons and people running the event haven't picked up every piece of trash left. Sort of a hippie/Mother Earth/green thing with ravers.

The thing many of you need to realize about raves is that it's in many ways supposed to be an "anti" to the club scene. A world of electronic music that's more abstract and not "mainstreamed" in any way, shape, or form the way it is in the club scene. Lord knows it's not easy to play pounding techno, drum and bass, or jungle in a club. Plus it's an "anti" to dress codes, bottle service, glam, etc.

The forest thing happened partially because of the "hippie-ness" of the rave thing, but also because the cities pushed them out with legislation. Frankly, I think without the rave scene there wouldn't be the innovations in music we've seen since the dawn of house music.

While I agree with your general sentiment, you can't put that many people into one place at one time and not do serious damage to the natural system there. I don't think you can be both "green" and forest raver at the same time. You can be a bit "greener" than others but the damage is still being done.

I don't think there is really much lasting harm at all so long as it's cleaned up properly and people don't do anything horrible.

Desert/Scrubland areas are even easier.

I agree with you Friction. I just remember when we did the 2nd Caveman Experience we cleaned up that whole place.

Cleaning is fine, admirable even. But throw a big enough event with a large amount of people (pissing and whatnot, trampling the ground, etc) and you have damage that needs to be repaired or to repair itself.

A concious effort is better then no effort at all though.

(am not hippy)

Having grown up in a small mountain town, forest raves were our forte'. As it turns out, I was raised quite the hippy, so I know how to take care of my forest. I also knew exactly how far away any possible inhabitants lived ... as well as the ranger station. Which means, good clean fun all around.

But yeah if you live out there and some kids roll up on your turf and blow up the sound waves ... livid, in a word.

But ... Bizerkely? Someone isn't trying very hard to get out to 'the forest' lol.

As long as there isn't any trash left behind, I don't see a huge problem with it. Sure it might be irritating to some of the animals in the woods for one night, but have you ever been woken up at night by a coyote or something howling in your yard? As long as there's no serious effects on their habitat, I don't think it's the end of the world.

If you got portable toilets and clean-up after yourself, and don't destroy the surrounding forest, then it's alright. So, given those requirements, most raves are at least bad for the environment, whether on not they are immoral depends on whether you include environmental consciousness in your definition of morality.

Perhaps one of the best examples of rave that's friendly to the environment is Burning Man. Although, I am sure many people would still call it immoral, due to other things that go on there

The real question is why are u bitching about instead of being out there spinning it or at least raving it up urself? It's common knowledge trees like pretty lights and squrrials love "candy" so... No harm done!

The foxes that come to fight, f*ck and socialise under my window deserve some Venetian Snares TBH. I am fed up of having to chasing the narky blurts off with a well-aimed tennis shoe (mostly because I then have to put some clothes on and retrieve the shoe...).

kids can only go to the worst clubs or dj "conserts" because of their age. No wants a rave next door to them when they have work in the morning so forest raves seems pretty reasonable to me as long as they clean up their shit.
