Trance Haters

I'm new so I'm sure this won't be the first or last time this is brought up in trance

Did you guys see that comic on that thread talking about how trance sucks, turn your back to the DJ, people who like trance are a bunch of conformists, blah blah blah. Give me a break The reason why people like trance is it feels good. One of the few EDM genres that never (in my opinion) gets annoying! I think most of them are pissed that most others couldn't sell two copies if they pressed a double album. Anything to add?

Everyone has different tastes in music. And every genre has good songs and bad songs. Don't get bent out of shape about people not liking your personal taste in music, because you probably wouldn't like all their tunes either.

And I assume you meant Ishkur's comic about trance music?

Meh, I like a bit of friendly hate once in a while, keeps the blood warm. Don't bother the trance lot though, I go straight for the deathmetal shouty bunch me.

A wall of discordant sh*te and some idiot screaming down a mic does not equal music bastards !!!!!

I think the cartoon is pretty funny. He's not bashing the music so much as the over-hyped superstar DJ's like Tiesto who give the music it's corny reputation.

I have nothing against trance. I've been through a stage when I was younger and I hated trance, then I went through a short phase where I thought it was pretty cool. Now there are some songs I enjoy, but it's not one of my favorite genres. Trance is one of those genres that gets bashed a lot... you might as well ignore it and just enjoy the music you enjoy. There's no point in worrying what other people like.

I like the uplifting happy-style trance like DJ Splash or Tune Up!
It's the stuff I like, (and make) but many people hate on it.
Why? It's happy, has catchy melodies, and is energetic.

In your opinion being the key part of that sentence, for a lot of people the big riffs and breakdowns of trance are much more annoying than, say, a subtle grooving tech-house beat.

I'm not saying one's better or worse, I'm just saying your statement is entirely subjective...

That is all good and true advice. I admit I did get a kick out of that comic! I just though it was weird that they said "turn your back on the DJ at the rave" and all this. Lets keep in mind we are there for the music, the DJ plays the music, turn your back on the DJ, turn your back on the music. Why even go?

Tiesto wasn't even that good when I saw him live anyway

Im guilty of doing some of the things in that comic, but other things are way over the top lol...

But gave me a good laugh (and im a trance fenatic)

The thing about trance is, the top DJ mag guys (like it matters) are usually trance.. so people usually think all these trance people are close minded and only want to do trance because it will "get them famous faster"

Me, as everyone knows, attempting to be a cure for AIDS... Tries to not play all those TERRIBAD trance songs.

lets face it, every genre has a TERRIBLE song in it, even me the AVID trance lover can no STAND 60% of the bullshit that comes out from that genre...

I spend way to much time filtering through music to find decent toons, as im sure everyone else here does with there favorite genre.

The point being, i know what GOOD trance, just like i know whats GOOD house, or GOOD break music...

Like symptoms said, he likes a few, but is sick of all the BS songs that come out...

Im right there with him, im sick of all the crap that comes out, but i dont want to give up on the genre just quite yet

I agree. It really seems that there is alot of "I used to like trance" people out there. For many its a matter of broadening your horizon and exploring what it has to offer. I really think Armin said it best in an interview regarding his new ASOT album:

"What makes trance work so well is that it doesn't stick to one style, and can incorporate electro, minimal, whatever it likes"

There are few other genres that can really live up to such a statement. Most other genres have some sort of defining characteristic that makes it what it is. I don't think that is true with trance, as Armin said "whatever it likes."

That's... not what the comic strip is saying. It's saying enjoy the music, dance, and don't face the DJ like he's a god. Like in the "good old days". People went out to dance, not watch a DJ twiddle knobs. That's the gist.

I got to be honest man, i think you are being a little biased about you opinion... go explore the world of EDM... buy a crapload of non trance music and youll see how people drift away from trance..

There are so many great genres of music out there, i could never dedicate myself to spinning one genre, i would get bored and frustrated very easy...

Im not saying trance is a horrible genre, i love it, well... its a love hate relationship

im asking you to go explore all the other genres, i just started listening to breaks... im loving some of this shit, but i still buy about 50 new trance tracks monthly, its my genre, and i hope i dont get sick of it, but im keeping my other options very open

Well, the thing is that Trance is typically seen as a "starter" EDM genre. A lot of people get into it, and then go deeper into EDM and discover other genres.

I started out spinning Trance, and I moved on after it stagnated and got boring for me. That happens to a lot of people, regardless of the genre they started spinning.

But, Trance's prime was in the late 90s, early 2000s, and that's when I started spinning. I do still dig a good Trance tune, but for the most part, it bores me now.

As for genres that can live up to that statement, House is really the only one that does.

By the way, the new "starter" genre is Indie Dance/Electro House/Fidget House blah blah blah.

I do listen to lots of other EDM. Dubstep, House, Electro, Breaks, DnB, Jungle and I think its all really great it in its own right (hell even donk, hardstyle and hardcore once in a while). I guess my point was that you don't see tons of trancelings talking down about other genres.

For you, trance never gets annoying. For me, good trance is okay, but hours of trance gets real annoying. We're different people, we have different preferences. It's only a style of music, not a way of life. For some reason, most of the people I know that really like trance hate drum n bass, and they constantly talk trash about how it takes no effort to write a DnB tune and how Ferry Corsten is a god among men. There is nothing wrong with either genre, they both have good tunes and bad tunes. I think you're reading into it too much by trying to apply blanket statements to a whole genre of music.

Yeah, the trance I like these days is quite floaty minimal trance, I generally do not like anything any of the so called top trance DJs play.

Because as Andrew said, Trance is a starting point for EDM fans, and at this point they have not long discovered pills and are all to "hey PLUR" caught up in their own world of love and acceptance of everyone, this changes.

Yup.

Funny how things have worked out. The crowd is so obnoxiously boring to watch, that the only person who looks like they are doing anything is the DJ.
