Musicv2.com has become another casualty of the current economical downturn. It has been a pleasure to serve the music community for the last 6 1/2 years and this decision comes with a heavy heart and much sadness. A few questions you may have are answered below:
What happened?
The simple answer is the economy. Musicv2 has always operated on a minimal or no profit basis and has been run as a "community project". Over the last year revenues fell over 60% and the site began to steadily lose money. We tried everything we could from finding investors, setting up sponsorships and even going to the community to assist in this time. Unfortunately none of those things worked out and it simply became impossible to keep the site online. "

anyone know any other good sites to host mixes?

good job i backed up a couple of months ago.

at least there are more websites around these days that offer service.

gutted, I still have all my mixes on my pc but its sad to lose the build of plays & comments etc - now I have to start it all over again somewhere else....

That sucks. MV2 was a good place to host your music. I backed up all my set and play lists a few weeks back when it crashed over there, thank goodness. I opened an acct at divshare (the paid one) it's not bad.

Bummer. I had 60+ mixes and over the last couple of months I was getting 3,000+ plays and downloads.

So I've seen mixcloud.com, any others sites that don't flood the listener with ad, etc. and will let them stream a mix and download them?

What I'm looking for in a hosting site, is something very similar to musicv2. It was sooooo incredibly easy for the listener. They go to the link and the tune would stream very fast, so they could listen and check the mix out to see if they like it. Then it was just a quick download clik. No BS ads, etc.

Wow, this is a big blow to our community here. A ton of us have musicv2 sites and we even have a sticky thread in mix submissions just to post the link to our site. I just spent a couple hours the other day posting all over facebook for my new filthy mix...gonna look kinda silly that the links are all dead now.

The money doesn't matter all that much...15 bucks is 3 drinks at the bar, no biggie, but we have all put a lot of time into building our sites there and I know a big portion of my fan base only knows me through that site and the newsletter feature. Aside from this forum, I'm basically starting again from scratch. I sure wish we were given a day or two of notice to send out a newsletter to my fans so they can find where I've relocated (haven't decided yet)

Hmm, so today little web hosting companies will be seeing a few extra hits from unhappy DJs... I am sure we'll hear what springs up as the favoured host du jour in due course.

You can host one some mixes on soundcloud but that site is more for producers and networking.

I didn't use it all that much but had been a subcriber for a couple of years. Good site, sad to see it go down. I think like the rest of you guys I'm unsure where I'll be hosting future mixes. It really was the place to go to distribute mixes and have them streamed easily.

Damn this sucks...Had my business cards with my musicv2 link on them too. Im guessing the email service is going to end soon as well? Either way i'm willing to donate some $$ to bring it back.
