saw internet rumours of "about $300 MSRP".

no knobs...or faders...

but I guess paired with other devices could be enjoyable.

better have multitouch...

was very interested with the video that didn't show any details.

not interested at all now that I actually saw the product.

If I were in this industry I would have put out a sub-$100 midi controller already perfectly designed for DVS users that could slip right in next to any mixer.

sometimes I wonder why these companies don't really produce products people need

I 100% agree with you.
When i saw the video, I was somewhat interested, now I am not at all.
I just need a midi controller with a lot of knobs, a couple pads, a couple sliders, some buttons, and its all good, something not too big, but something that isn't all cramped either.

the m-audio x-session pro is a pretty decent little midi controller that has most of what you're looking for and it's priced under $100

Hmm. Based on the video and the photo, I'm not TOO excited, though it's a step in the right direction, I think. Rather than make something that emulates a keyboard, MPC, DJ mixer, or studio mixer, they've tried to design something explicitly for the DVS crew. I think that counts for something. Though whether or not it's a winner will be entirely dependent on how it performs.

DUA MUSIK has a point though - a compact mess of sliders, knobs, pads, and buttons might honestly be for the best. Maybe something the size of the EFX500, except loaded with MIDI controls.

And good god. Who chose that NAME? DaScratch? This is like A&H's new graffed up faceplate for the Xone:02 - "We've made it mad street, y'all better get one like now, yo!" What I wouldn't do for these marketing people to actually consult someone who knows hip-hop. Or god, at least give it a very neutral name. Don't get me wrong - I love hip-hop. But I like backpack hip-hop, not boardroom would-be hip-hop.

Hey i saw the gizmo on the homepage and it looked interesting so i clicked on it.
I'm not too big with the midi controllers, so im not too sure what it does?
From the video it looks like a drum machine, and he is changing tracks in serato with it.
Can it do anything else?

yeah it's not a drum machine; it's a MIDI controller, which means you can use it to tweak settings in DJ software like Ableton, Traktor, or Serato. From the looks of the video, he's got cue points triggers programmed in and he's pushing the triggers, no diff from what he might do with a M-Audio trigger finger but fancier looking. But from what I can tell from what little stanton has released, you'll be able to scratch with this thing by moving back and forth on the touchpad, and also be able to do circular gestures that will convey commands as well. I'm not sure if it will be that cool till I see it in action; my idea is it would be great if this thing would work instead of a turntable -- bring this and a mixer to a gig and use it to run serato internally but be able to scratch on its surface like a tabletop cd player.... But if it's just yet another collection of MIDI triggers I can add to my rig, probably not.

And, yeah, I'm gonna need them to change the name too. Did they even think about how it sounds to use the word in a sentence? "I'm gonna go home and play with my dascratch". "I'm bringing the dascratch to the gig." Yeah ok douchebag I'm just gonna bring my needles; you know what, fuck the gig, I'm gonna throw my own party with hookers and blackjack. In fact, forget the party. What were we talking about again?

It's too late to change the name. Just refer to it as the SCS3D. Or Stanton touchy MIDI controller thingy.

I've always had a rant about why manufacturers stick with endless strings of numbers and letters instead of proper names for products. And this shows me exactly why.

People tend to underestimate how useful touch-based controllers can be for live work, I'll be checking this out for sure.

AHHAHAHAHAHHA! Hilarious!

You know, if I could use this thing as a touch controlled scratch platter for Torq, I might just pick one up.

Yeah, I'm interested in trying it out too. Of course, torq's needle sounds are probably the worst in the business : | even if you mod them.
