Need help with my (nonDJ) setup

    Hey Guys,

Used to frequent these forums eons ago. Was djing back then, but have been on a hiatus for years. Looking to get some help with my home audio setup. It's nothing fancy, and this is mildly embarrassing, but I cannot get my setup to work.

    The players:
YAMAHA Natural Sound AV Receiver HTR- 5740
    Presonus Eris E3.5
    Samsung TV UN40FH6030

    The cables:
    https://ibb.co/jMPyDLK
    https://ibb.co/McvXr5J
    https://ibb.co/VJxW5V2
    https://ibb.co/Lkp4GYj

Goal: to be able to control the audio with the receiver remote, as my TV is "fixed" and is not letting me adjust my audio.

    What am I missing/need?

The best method for playing TV through an AVR is to connect the TV optical out to the AVR optical in. Defeat the TV internal speakers, control the volume with the AVR remote or universal remote.

How do I then connect the speakers to the receiver? RCAs?

RE optical cables: this will do?

^^^ Yeah that's all you need in between the receiver and your DVD/BluRay player. Your remote does the rest. I have a similar Yamaha receiver and it's all plugged in that way.

    Errrrm. Speaker cable.

The speaker terminals are clearly labelled at the back.

Between the TV (not blueray/dvd) and receiver I use what I linked, great! Speakers to receiver, I use speaker cables, but looking at the back here I don't see a place for them. The only place to put speakers cable is already occupied, that's how I'm connecting the set of speakers together. What am I doing wrong?

ps. Hi Manu, I remember you from wayyyy back in the day. I still listen to your mixes from way back in the day. Hope all is well.

    Haha thanks

So it's a little more complicated than your regular AV system. I'm afraid you cannot output a RCA plug into a powered speaker from a fixed line output and get it remote controlled. The left speaker wire terminal is an output for the right speaker, not an input. Generally speaking, you never plug a powered speaker into an amp.

I think you might want to consider buying a pair of passive speakers?

The speakers are powered, so they don't connect to the speaker outputs of the AVR, they connect to the audio output RCA jacks. Normally if you have an AVR you don't use powered speakers.
