doesnt mean they are any good, felix da housecat is massively famous and his mixing is worse than a babies. last time i heard daft punk dj i didnt find their mixing to be anything special and they are world superstars. its not just about being famous. id rather download mixes from the thread on here than listen to half the stuck up bullshit that famous djs are playing

Who here has played to a bigger crowd than Paris Hilton? Who here has earned more for a DJ set than Paris Hilton? Oh, nobody? Well in that case, we should all just mime to mixtapes made by other DJs. She must be doing something right.

Getting to be a well known producer or DJ can happen in a few ways, usually through some combination of talent and luck, but when you set the talent bar low just because someone else who isn't that talented caught a lucky break, you are only holding yourself back. Either that or it's just an excuse to justify laziness.

If you really love DJing, producing, or both, this wouldn't even be a topic of discussion. It's only because features like auto-sync have opened the doors for a bunch of lazy cunts to buy some gear and think they're a DJ a week later that we go round and round in circles with this same topic. "But I'm more creative because of sync!" - No, you're fucking not. You're a lying, lazy, useless twat making bland, sub-par mixes that clog up the Internet and make it harder for everyone to find the good stuff.

Pretty much every day on here there's some new guy saying "listen to my first mashup" or "check out my first attempt at a mix" and I'm listening to this awful racket while thinking "you guys do have working ears, yeah?". Then I read "I only started DJing/producing 2 weeks ago" and I'm thinking "well why the fuck are you posting shit up then, you bell end?". We should get back to fostering an attitude of "hone your craft first". That includes learning beatmatching, phrase matching, EQing and how to use gains. If you can't spend a few months even learning that, then you might as well take your cheap plastic controller and bang it on eBay today.

Deadmau5 = Producing for 15+ years. Producer first. DJ second.

Skrillex = Producer, singer, songwriter, plays a couple of instruments. Was in a band for 3 or 4 years as the lead singer. Producing for several years. Producer first. DJ second.

But all I need to do to be like those guys is download a cracked version of Fruity Loops and make weak clones of their music to put on SoundCloud and Facebook, right guys? That should only take me about 3 or 4 weeks of "craft honing".

Whatever anyone thinks of someone like Deadmau5 and his music, dood has put the work in. But without the production stuff, would that guy be up on stage DJing to massive crowds? Almost certainly not.

What if I sync but without beatgrids. I have never used a beat grid, ever and personally dont like to look at it on my waves.

Sync just makes things a little easier is all. Just because someone did not have it when they learned, IMO, does not make it wrong. Djing to look cool, make friends, to be hip, because it is hot, is all way more fucked up that using sync.

I spin because I love music and I love to mix and blend songs. Yes I use the sync feature. Does that mean I don't deserve to practice my right to do something I love to do? Fucking bollocks I tell you.

easier for what?? easier to mash tracks up with loads of loops, effects and airhorns. or just easier to stand about for 4 mins till the next transition is ready??

or is it easier because your doing some tight live remix of a track?? if this is the case then respect. if its the other 2 then A: give the mashing a rest people dont want their fave tracks ruined, or B: standing around because your new toy means you dont have to beatmatch is just pure laziness if your not utilising the time doing something constructive

I'm not trying to say that deadmau5 and skrillex are good DJ's, but they're both talented producers in my opinion and that's what they're doing right.

I can't comment on their DJ'ing skill because i'm in no place to critique they're performance at the decks. I think the main reason they are DJing is because DJing and producing tend to go hand in hand nowadays and because they produce i'd imagine there would have been a fair amount of pressure to become a DJ.
