My first dj setup

Whatup - I'm about to dive headfirst into DJing and I'm about to purchase my first set of gear. What I'm looking at getting is a set of Vestax gear off craigslist:

Quote:
Vestax DJ Setup

2 - CDX-05 CD/MP3 Players
1 - VMC-185XL Mixer
1 - American Audio Road Case

All in fantastic shape. This was my backup console and I gig so little I don't have a need for it. Complete system for the price of 1 new CDJ

$750 and it's yours.
I'm mostly interested in playing House, maybe a little Trance or Dubstep depending on the situation. Not really into Hip Hop, scratching, etc. Overall I'm generally interested in the whole "European DJ" thing.

Some gratuitous images - because they always make a thread more fun to look at.

So what do you guys think? Good move? Bad? I'm gonna make sure my DJ friend tries the gear out to make sure it's working and everything.

Personally, if i had 750$ to spend id grab a second hand pair of cdj200's "500$ you can find them for if you're lucky and a decent mixer for the extra 250$, ot save a wee bit more and you could get yourself a nice xone 22 or such.

I'd stay away from the vestax cdj's if i was you

Personally if you're going with CD players, I'd get some used Pioneer CDJ200's since you arent scaratching.

Yeah I've been looking around for awhile but all I could find by Pioneer was 800's for $700+ apiece... From what I've read online, and people I've talked to, the Vestax decks are solid for the price... and I can always upgrade later, right?

What about headphones? I'm hoping to spend somewhere between $150-$200 CAD. One friend says Senn HD25 II's, but I've tried them and I prefer something that completely covers my ear, plus they're a little pricey. My other friend recommended Pioneer HDJ-1000's. The guy at the store (Tom Lee Music) recommended either Denon DN-HP-700's or Shure SRH750DJ's... Needless to say I'm a little overwhelmed...

Uhm...what about the Denon DN-S1200s? They're as good as the CDJs for cheaper. And you'll probably find someone around town selling used Denon decks. I know someone in my region was selling a pair of 3500s for $800! Mint condish!

I am with everyone else, go Pioneer or Denon. Vestax's CD decks are okay but for the price you can do better. You can live without the roadcase and if worse comes to worse, you can build one yourself from scratch (if you are good with tools).

Can you guys recommend somewhere other than Craigslist? So far on CL I haven't seen a lot of options.

For headphones I personally recommend the Technics RPDH-1200's. Sturdy as a brick shit house.
