90's EDM revival in the 2010's

Regardless what anyone thinks, the 2000's had an interesting 80's revival, from Acid House-based Electro(Felix da Housecat & Miss Kittin) to New-Wave inspired music(La Roux & Digitalism) and Electropop Queens(Lady Gaga & Little Boots)

We also saw a Freestyle revival thanks to the Black Eyed Peas and Diplo, and a Reaganomics recession caused by neo-Conservatism just like the 80's, along with a war in Afghanistan and Iraq, and another Iranian problem along with a return to Cold War-era tension in Asia..

This decade will be quite better because of a 90's revival. It has started with a new Deep house scene thanks to Kerri Chandler & Jamie Jones filling up club nights. In a few years i'll expect the following to happen:

-Big Beat sounds attracting Fidget house producers like Crookers (Happening with Crookers' new album)
-Groove Armada-esque Reggae-influenced House popular again thanks to DJ Zinc
-Return of Faithless (Which is already happening)
-Return of Fatboy Slim
-Reboot of Trance music with new producers bringing back the old Gatecrasher/Cream sounds of Trance music.

I expect the 2010's to be simpler times just like the 90's. You know, driving to the beach with your girlfriend in a jeep while listening to Fatboy Slim's Praise You and having that teenage rebellion marketing all over again via OK Soda and the New Radicals.

I was just a kid in the late 90's but hey thanks to that era i got myself into Oakenfold, Prodigy and Fatboy Slim. Good times.

This explains a lot of your viewpoints. I was a kid in the 80s and have quite a bit of a different outlook, politically and culturally. The 90s are the "Golden Age" of hip hop, but I still love the 80's stuff more. I had a lot more fun in the 80s than I did in the 90s. The 90s represented a complete fake life for me, as it was high school, then living the high life, then it all come crashing down when the dot bomb bubble burst.

EDM is making somewhat of a comeback in the clubs, but pop rap still rules Atlanta's nightlife. I had high hopes for DJ Hero to revitalize real hip hop, but alas.

I'd put my money on more "classic" or "retro" music in the coming decade, or possibly even "live" type acts that use less samplers/sequencers.

American Idol is finally fading, people are getting bored with pop music being produced with the same familiar drum kits, and music, as a whole, has really stagnated and plateaued, creatively.

Of course, if we all get fitted with robot ears, who won't love techno?

I don't think you're allowed to do your teenage years over when you're in your 30s.

An interesting thought to be sure. I played a tech house remix of Insomnia by Faithless last weekend at a gig and the younger people in the crowed bobbed their heads while the older rav0rs went bat shit crazy for it. Apparently Faithless did the EM on the BBC a few weeks back too? I heard the new single and I'm not what you would call impressed but I'll give the whole album a shot and see whats up before passing judgement on if its just a grab for cash or if they still actually have "it".

Amen to that. I'm a child of the 80s myself.

I'll be sure then to keep on my own productions. Most of my ideas align with the OP's predictions.
