How to remove crackle from ripped vinyl?

Hello everybody, I just got to ripping some of my parents' old vinyl collections to MP3 through serato and I was wondering what would be the best software solution to remove the crackles and pops? Preferably free, but I am willing to pay if I need to. I have already tried cleaning the records physically, but that didn't help much. Any help is appreciated, thanks.

If you use Adobe Audition they have a click / pop noise reduction filter that works very well... Audition is kinda expensive though.

I already searched the forums for solutions and I followed them. I also used a brand new shure m44-7 needle. I'm really looking for some software.

I use Cool Edit Pro software to remove clicks and pops.

A word of warning, click / pop removal software doesn't work well on many new electro tracks, because many of the sounds used are like clicks so the software removes them too.

you can check out sound soap. it's made for removing clicks and pops. i used it before. the only downside is if you tweak it too much, you kind of weaken the warmth of your vinyl rip.

I use Magix Audio Cleaning Lab - available at Best Buy for about $40.

Don't use Serato to rip vinyl, the quality is no where near what you get from Adobe Audition (which as mentioned above is expensive, think there is a 30 day trial though). Can still use the SSL box as your interface if you update to Scratchlive 1.7.2 as it has new drivers to let the box work with other software as well as the SSL program.

I leave in any crackles/pops I get. Figure if i played the vinyl in question it would pop, so why not leave in the 'authenticity' of the vinyl.

i like the crackle and pops.

Cool Edit Pro has a click/pop eliminator.
...but it never works as good as going in there and isolating the sound and EQing the hell out of it to fix it.

I like the crackles and pops too.

There are actually effects to simulate the crackles and pops. Now ask yourself why...

Leave them in

even if you can use software to remove it, often it will remove a part of the audio which wasn't a the click or pop. I'd go with cleaning the record as best you can, and then just ripping it and enjoying the pop sounds.

Leave them in if they aren't too bad... If there aren't lots and they are in noticeable sections I like to go in and "draw" them out in Sound Forge. As someone mentioned running software can remove "warmth" as well as parts of the audio so play around with the settings on cpies of the tracks.
