How to hang Chauvet MinSpot lights from the ceiling

    Hi all,

I'm just wondering what the safest and easiest way is to hang these lights (3.8kg) each to my ceiling, the ceiling they'll be fixed to is sloped plasterboard in an attic conversion so I'll be wanting to fix the lights to the plaster board and the support beams behind the plaster.

    Thanks.

Drill a bolt with a washer through the hanging bracket into the support beams... drill a big enough hole so you can route all your cables through also. Simple

Edit: Assuming your support is wood.

No, it's not that simple. OP said it is "Slopped" plaster board, so his ceiling is not parallel to the floor. Using your method, the fixtures would end up sloped as well.

The cheap getto way would be to purchase a sizeable 90 degree metal bracket. Using a vise, bend one leg at 90 degrees in the center, half way out to the the tip of the new 90 drill a hole to allow you to bolt the mounting bracket of the fixture to it.

Now using two lag screws the untouched leg of the bracket to a ceiling joist. Once done, adjust the units original 90 degree angle to have the fixture hanging perpendicular to the floor.

Or give me the pitch of the ceiling and I can have my shop make up what you need.

Note: Bolts do not screw into wood.

    Hi guys,

Thank you for the replies. I finally got around to taking some pictures in the hope of progressing with this... This will give you a good idea as to what I'm trying to do:

    Can this be done?

I want to hang this light which weighs 3.8 kg :

    On this ceiling (Plasterboard)

    With something like this:

Can this be done and done safely?

Ok, here is what "I" would do. And by no means am I saying this is the "right" or "safe" way to do it.

Buy some Punched Plated Flat from Lowes/Home Depot: http://www.lowes.com/Search=plated+f...d=10051&rpp=16

    Bend it into a triangle.
You are going to have to do some measuring to make sure you get the correct angle. Cut off any excess.

Depending on where your mounting it, plain sheet rock, or a wooden stud, depends on what type of screws you will need.

Wood Screws, or Sheetrock anchor screws (indicated by green lines below).

And then using nuts and bolts, mount the MinSpot to the bottom.

I'm more concerned on how your planing on running power to the fixtures...

Also, remember to use safety cables.
