Right... my guess is that there was plenty of reasonable suspicion just by plain view to get a lot of the ravers.

I don't think its that uncommon, at least on smaller scales, where people are searched because they just happened to be at a certain place at a certain time when the police raided.

Sounds to me like attending an event with such a high-rate of plain view sightings/offerings of contraband is enough for probably cause.

And that is what is exactly what is wrong with our police state.

I'd be very interested hearing some of the legal specifics of similar cases if anyone knows.

I bet that the percentage of drug-related arrests at music events is a very small fraction of the total number of people bringing drugs to events.

Interesting... one issue, however... the article states:

In another case involving the search of every patron at a bar, the United States Court of Appeals explained that it is illegal for police to frisk “a person in a public place where the officers have no specific … facts on which to base a suspicion of that person in particular.” As the court said: “the sole fact that an individual … happens to be in a public place” where someone else might be committing a crime “does not provide a basis for a … search.” U.S. v. However, the SCOTUS had already ruled that a frisk is not illegal in Terry vs Ohio when:

a landmark decision by the United States Supreme Court which held that the Fourth Amendment prohibition on unreasonable searches and seizures is not violated when a police officer stops a suspect on the street and frisks him without probable cause to arrest, if the police officer has a reasonable suspicion that the person has committed, is committing, or is about to commit a crime and has a reasonable belief that the person "may be armed and presently dangerous."
