Thread: busts and how they affect the scene

  1. #31
Police came early in the morning with a warrant to search the premises. Woke everyone up, got them out of their tents or cars and put them in the middle of a field while police searched tents, but not cars. They did not personally search every person. They only searched people where they found something in the tents or elsewhere. From what I saw, the police were polite and addressed the crowd as "ladies and gentlemen". All the ravers were polite and other than a little grumbling, did not act out or call the police names either. Some drugs and money were found, but I suspect no more than would be found at any kind of music festival. This was of course an unfortunate event for people present, and a few were busted, but it was nowhere near the drama pushed out by the media. So this was a pain in the butt on Sunday morning, but we had a great time on Saturday night!

Looks like we found the square and/or narc of DJF. Either that or Dj Dennis improved his typing skills and moved to LA.

So I guess what we are asking is....Are you a cop???

Sounds like they pissed off cops with noise and the cops knew they would find dope at a rave, so the went and got and it made them look like they are doing there job real good in the public eye.

Probably makes the local community feel safe from the evil druggy ravers.....GOD DAMNED RAVERS WITH ALL THEIR P.L.U.R. AND SILLY OUT FITS!!!!

For one, its Virginia. For two, apparently they didn't have the proper permits for the event.

BTW, the majority of the people that were sacked had their charges dropped.

Facebook last week was filled w/ all sorts of raver drama behind the event that got busted. The promoter failed to pay a bit of the artists on the bill and also burned a lot of bridges by talking ish about other big time promoters and djs in the surrounding area. Twas pretty epic.

The more I learn about it, the more it seems like it was amateur night all around - charges being dropped, promoter not getting proper permits, DJs not getting paid - good stuff!

The news wont report on all the miss haps though. And John Q Public sees the cops as hero's for this. Pretty dumb to have a rave 2 or so mile from the jail though, you are right about armature night for sure.

I mean if everything is sorted for the event, its not dumb to have a rave a few miles from the police station. Hell one of the biggest EDM events on the east coast, Starscape has security run by off AND on duty Baltimore police officers. That party has been happening every year for I forget how long...

I skimmed that article because it seemed to be based mostly on the legal standing of the search & seizure. That part is interesting, but it's far from the whole story.

Just because I think it's atrocious, I'll go ahead and mention a few facts that rarely get reported: [list][*]The Eagle is a gay bar.[*]Nothing serious was confiscated. Some weed; some fake IDs; maybe a few hits of harder stuff…don't remember to specifically. But it's not like it was a hardcore drug den. [*]The majority of the purpose of the raid, from the point of view of people who were there and were not arrested, was to hassle the f*ck out of gay guys having a good time. Coincidentally, it was a couple weeks before the anniversary of California House Resolution 8 passing (the H8 bill), which was to be commemorated by a pretty large "day of solidarity" protest by the Atlanta GLBT community. You can talk about the rave act or drugs or search & seizure provisions or anything else, but that raid was a bunch of pigs beating up and hassling fags for no god damned reason.

I've been to way too many big events where drugs are easier to get than water and used in full view of on-duty police oficers to think that drugs have anything to do with when and where these raids happen.

It's about a combination of money and how pissed off people with money are about it happening.

At UMF, I've watched cops make eye contact with someone who was hitting a bowl, laugh, and turn around and leave. I overheard another pair have a conversation about some guy in one of the crowds who was obviously rolling and how if they were anywhere else, that'd be the kind of guy that they'd give a hard time. As it was, they seemed just to be watching to a) make sure the performers were safe and b) make sure people didn't pass out and get trampled or something.

Probably something to do with the millions of dollars that UMF/WMC brings to the Miami economy every spring.

Pretty sure I said the jail and not a police station. Turns out, this time, it was a pretty stupid idea.
