    Good books on production?

I really want to get more into production, but I'm not a particularly musical person which makes it hard. I want to create house tracks, chill out stuff, and big sweeping EDM tracks for my girlfriend to sing over (she has a classical soprano like you wouldn't fucking believe, and it's not just because I'm in love with her, I swear).

I already own Ableton Live 7 and quite a bit of gear / interfaces. I've been doing a good amount of recording (in theaters, for podcasts, bands, etc.) but I'd really like to make my own music.

Can anyone recommend some good books on composition and theory, specifically for electronic music, composed on the computer?

I've got the Dance Music Manual. That one is pretty cool, but I wish he would spend more time on drum programming.

+1, Id say take a look at composition for cm, the first 3 chapters or so are all about drums and percussion programming

I'll probably pick up the Ableton Live Power manual when I upgrade to Live 8. I'd hate to buy an old version of the thing for my old version of Ableton.

Thanks for the recommendation of the Post Production book. That's most of what I do these days and I'd love to learn more.

I wouldn't pick the Power manuals, most of the stuff is in the software manual anyway.

Concentrate on music, sound design and structure. Once you really hit a wall using a daw then you can start looking for info on the net.

I also Have The dance music manual, is quite good as also Secrets of house music. What I miss and it's going to be my next purchase is a book on synthesis.

Dunno about Ableton Live 8 Power!, but Sonar Power books are very well written. The Ableton books actually have a different author, so not sure about how detailed he is.

I felt it was pretty helpful (power), although I felt like the author was sucking abletons d the whole time trying to sell me on it, and I'm just thinking "I already bought the software, you don't need to convince me!" ha
