Building a bar up from scratch and I mean nothing.

So this particular place keeps bugging me about building a night up there. I played a saturday there 2 weeks ago, and you would of thought I was curing cancer and making magic at the reception I got from who actually showed up there.

I started at 9, with the dinner crowd, that dwindled down to NO ONE by 10:30 and they were about to let me go (with full payment mind you) by midnight, but a wedding crowd showed up at 11:45 and they sucked, they wanted it turned down and most likely wanted a coffee shop type of place instead of a bar.

Anyways, the town this particular bar is in, is in the middle of no where. I live in no where and this is 20 minutes MORE into no where, but is the only bar in the area.

Right now they have a nice little area for a DJ to be setup but no sound system. I offered to put a sound system in there and handle entertainment for a mere $200, but I'd be providing guys with skills, not laptop DJs playing Itunes.

They are iffy, for the obvious reasons, since they don't exactly get a crowd each weekend, sometimes no wedding crowds show up and they close early.

Has anyone built up a crowd in a small-ass town like this? Any suggestions?

$.50 Cent drafts and $2 mixed drinks. Keep the cups small, doesn't matter. From there it's the effort of getting word spread. Good luck. If he's dead 6 nights a week then he has nothing to lose, and neither do you so don't be affraid to demand GREAT speacials to work with.

I didn't think of drink specials.

I was more worried about simple marketing lol and just how to get the word out, would you think that the standard flyer/street level marketing would work?

Trust me though, it kills me to play for an empty building when the weekend before it I was playing for 500+ throughout the night.

No offense but you have it MUCH easier, Colorado Springs is what? 400,000 population? This 'town' has a population of 800. Colorado Springs is the size I like and the type of town I come from. I've just been offered this particular offer and might take it because they have 3 bars, all similarly sized and they pay is the same as what I was making doing big clubs.
