Once Again The RIAA Losess Their Minds

Most of us here (I would hope) acquire our music legally and don't use sites like Limewire. But this just goes to show how absurd the recording industry has gotten...and thats putting in mildly. They are asking the courts to award them a judgement against Limewire for $75 Trillion US. That is more money than twice the 2011 GDP (Gross Domestic Product) of the United States, United Kingdom, Brazil, Germany, Spain, Italy, France and Russia....COMBINED!!! I mean really who are they led by Dr. Evil....

    http://www.pcworld.com/article/22343...n_damages.html

The music industry wants LimeWire to pay up to $75 trillion in damages after losing a copyright infringement claim. That's right . . . $75 trillion. Manhattan federal Judge Kimba Wood has labeled this request "absurd."

You're telling me. To put that number into perspective (I bet a lot of you didn't even know "trillion" was a real number), the U.S. GDP is around 14 trillion -- less than one fifth of what the music industry is requesting.

They do know that around a third of the pirated material they're complaining about was created by... ...you know, dudes who are dead, and thusly, could give less than a shit about the money? ROFL

My big thing about that is they want payment for all the songs downloaded/pirated. In my opinion 90% of those people would never buy most of the songs downloaded if they weren't free. So it's not lost profit. At least not in that high of a number. Outrageous number

I think it is. Friends of mine have hundreds of gigabytes of free downloaded music, I'm pretty sure to say such people won't spend their whole month salary on buying music on iTunes. They'll just not download it and listen it on Youtube or Spotify or whatever.

lol, jokers. Did limewire even make any money? Its file sharing, not advertising.

Imo, the only way to stop piracy is to make it easier for people to buy music, games & films online. I wish they would put money into doing this rather than giving it to the living dead (lawyers). Then they might actually see some change.

If they were able to get 75 trillion, then they could afford to give free music and movies for everyone over a period of a few centuries.

Warner brothers cry while AOL time Warner gives access to downloadable content, and Sony cries while sony sells disc drives and blank media.
