Noob needs help on purchasing a new mixer

Recently, I posted on a thread about having problems with a speaker and a big part of it was my Pioneer DJM 400 mixer.
I want to try and sell my current mixer and get one that has more than 2 channels, has balanced outputs etc etc, and because I don't know much about mixers, I wanted to know what are some good mixers in the $400-600 range that you really like?
What are some general, important things I should look for?

Look into Ecler Nuo 3.0. You get an extra 3rd channel (3phono, 3 line inputs), XLR (balanced) master out, booth output, FX send/return, XLR mic input, and your $400-600 budget fits perfectly. It can also be installed with either an Eternal fader or Innofader for transform/crab scratching.

The Nuo 3.0 sounds great too!

Well, the DDM4000 is a decent MIDI mixer but not as solid as the Nuo 3.0 and Ecler is still a smarter choice. If you're going for a MIDI mixer, save up a lot more and go for a used Nuo 4 (not Nuo 4.0). New units go for $750-800. Used are priced from $400-500.

Shameless Plug.... I have a Xone 42 up for grabs in the Classifieds Section, Great Mixer im just looking to upgrade to the grand-daddy (get it ? cus its old) Xone 92
PS: even if you dont buy it from me, the Xone 42 is a great little mixer that is also affordable, brand new its a little more than your budget (around 799) but if you buy used it can be had for around 650 (just a little north of your budget, but very close)

I'll 2nd the Ecler. I have an Ecler 3 (precursor to the 3.0) and it is one solid mixer. I am the third owner of mine and the only "issue" it has is some worn graphics under the faders. They are long however. I think they're sized to fit the long edge of a vinyl turntable.

I seem to have only been able to find people selling Nuo 4.0, not Nuo 4's... Looking around, it seems like the Nuo 4.0 just has some newly added features?

Difference is, the Nuo 4 is MIDI capable while the 4.0 is a plain 4-channel mixer with FX send/return input/output. Like the 3.0, the 4.0 also have individual LED meters per channel.

Have a look to see if you can get yourself a used Rodec Scratchbox, it's sound quality is recording studio quality, a little better than the Rane TTM56 I might add too, the faders are butter smooth, the eq is extremely good and the headphone amplifier is the cleanest and most pristine sound quality of any dj mixer i've ever used.
