What software is my Traktor interface compatible with?

I recently bought some CDJs and a mixer off Craigslist and the guy included his N|I Audio 4 DJ. I'm pretty sure he had it working with Traktor Scratch, but what product does what on the Native Instruments site is kind of confusing. It doesn't even look like they make the 4 DJ anymore, I see 8 and 10. I've used Torq in the past, but know that Traktor has more features so I'm interested in setting it up. Do I just need to buy Traktor Scratch so I can get a key and install it?

Does the hardware interface work with other N|I software?

It's just a sound card. You can use it for all sorts of things. I have an Audio 8 and I use mine to record my microphone into Ableton. As long as you have the drivers, it pretty much works with everything.

They stopped making the Audio 4 a long time ago, but they continue to support it. If you wanted to use it to get Traktor Scratch Functionality, all you would have to do is purchase a copy of Traktor scratch and get the appropriate timecode vinyl and CDs.

Thanks for the reply. The seller included the timecode CDs, so I guess I just need to get the drivers and purchase Scratch. Looking at the NI website, they have Scratch A6 and A10. These look like they include the sound card which I don't need. Traktor Pro looks like it's just software, what's the difference between Scratch and Pro?

ETA: Google suggests that with no Scratch, you can't use CDJs and timecode CDs. Is there a way to get the Scratch software without buying another sound card? Or am I just missing the picture entirely here.

You can buy the Traktor scratch upgrade version for $89. I'm currently not at my computer right now so I can't send you a link, but there is a version for certified hardware owners (Audio 4) and certified mixer owners.

I guess I'll have to poke around the NI site a little more. Thanks, rep'd.

Check with the guy who sold you the Audio 4 ... he would have got Traktor or Traktor Scratch with it. If he releases the software to you, it could make things less expensive.

Yeah, he really should've released the software license to you. If he didn't, sorry to say, you got kind of screwed. You have a really nice soundcard, but now you have to buy the Traktor Scratch Pro software, which is going to cost you more on top.
