Cubase is a very well done DAW. Between that and Sonar, they are the two best options for music production these days. The problems are that Cubase does have a few quarks and Sonar is only PC compatible. The two of them though have some of the most advanced tools of DAWs out there.
Obviously Ableton is the best option for DJing and electronic music performance at this point. I really feel it lacks in editing though.

I really think this opinion is insanely ill-conceived.
I really don't think there's a best, and I haven't seen anything that convinces me of that.
I'll give you Live for performance but it's also the only thing out there that's at all suited to live use if you're not actually playing synthesizers.
But, uhh…cubase might be fun, but it looks like a damn cylon control panel. It and Reaper have the most confusing interfaces I've ever seen…and StuioOne (which was supposedly built by Steinberg……i.e., it's cubase with a different skin) is better only in that it's less atrociously ugly. And I still don't think it's actually worse than the tools I use.
I rewire reason into ableton and sync ableton with traktor sometimes for post fader delay.
I started using acid in highschool... both types![]()

Our concept of "self" is merely the transition from the potential energy in our body into the kinetic energy of your actions.
I've got Cubase 6 and I love it. That being said, the interface definitely takes a lot of getting used to as well. Still kind of surprised there are only a couple of us.
PBR is too mainstream, real indie kids should drink the beast or natty![]()

Whenever I've tried Cubase or Sonar I've found the interface completely overwhelming. It seems like Ableton really hit the nail on the head by thinking about how a DAW can be designed more efficiently.
To each their own though, I imagine if I'd started on Cubase I'd find Live a bit weird...
