    Ego Vs. Confident

Now obviously, being confident in your skills as a producer, dj or whatever is always a good thing...

But what's the line for you when your talking to someone who you simply can't be in the same same room.

    Stories?

I had this one kid try out for a new club night I'm doin, I told him to bring his cds, he walked in with a controller, a tshirt with his dj name on it, and said "I only play if my names on the flier"

I said, we will see... he trainwrecked the whole time, used the excuse "I don't play house often" the quality of his tracks where all limewire etc... after he was do
ne playing he gave me his b card and said he charges 100 an hour, and to contact him"... after doing this he tried to further boast his cool factor by saying all these awesome massive shows he used to do in another state etc etc.

By this time I told him I'm not interested, as I could see his ass was jealous of how much his mouth was shitting out...

Anywho, it always seems like the little ones have the egos, wheras the experianced ones have the confidence
Need a new Global Trance avatar, takers? :p

The worst ones are always n00bs. It's like American Idol and all of those shows where you get delusional idiots saying "I'm the next Mariah Carey" before singing a song and sounding like a cat being strangled. Nobody's ever told them they're shit and they may have even had friends saying "yeah, you're great!", plus they may not know enough about DJing to know just how bad they are.

Yeah, that's the primary reason I won't Dj for anyone other than my friends right now. I feel confident enough, but I'm waiting a bit for feedback from real DJs.

I had this dude telling me that he used to DJ back in the day and make $1,700 a night. He had like all these crazy stories of meeting famous people and "almost" getting hired to DJ with top name acts. So one night I let him on my turntables and he couldn't mix or scratch or do anything. The only thing he could do is "look" like somebody who was djing. He had all the movements down and everything, but you could tell he didn't know how to use the cue on a two channel mixer. Anyway, He blamed his nonexistent skills on the fact that he hasn't done it in years and has forgotten most of the techniques he had learned and put the other half of the blame on my record collection.

Whoa. Whoa. Whoa... there. Are all n00bs that are confident delusional? I love how your opinion of a majority is informed by a minority.

Do you even know what delusional means?

recently, i've found my testicles to be hanging significantly lower than before... it almost feels as if something's latched onto them. probably not relevant to the topic at hand, just an observation

ya, some noobs are overly confident and tend to have egos. thankfully, in my personal experience, most people i've met that are starting out are pretty humble about it and willing to learn. what bugs me the most are the tiestos and guettas of the world, people who have really seemed to become convinced in their fame that they're something other than a normal dude or dudette playing other peoples' music to a crowd. that they're some type of higher entity.

to iggy: i'm sure there's plenty more pompous twats like that which you'll encounter if they're responding to a general, openly-advertised ad for a dj gig. i know you've only moved out to the area but (as you prolly know) as you start networking more, the way you book will be a much more organic process.

i'm afraid you don't understand what the term 'identity politics' means and in which context it meaningfully operates under

talented people can certainly still have a massively overblown ego. the successful ones who start becoming deluded of their own self-worth or significance based on something like fame are the ones that bother me the most.
