Party Ideas: HOW to get people to come early?

Would love some suggestions on what kind of offers/ideas/incentives you guys come up with to draw people to your parties in time for the warm-up.

We live in a culture where people like to 'pre-drink' somewhere else and get to the party relatively late.

    Any IDEAs?

Is There a cover charge at the door & are you selling drinks?
    1) How should I know... Ask the client!
    2) If you put it where I can see it, I'm gonna look at it. If you don't want me to see it, keep it covered up.

We usually sell tickets beforehand and have more expensive price at the door.

    We do sell drinks.

Early bird offers on drinks have rarely worked.

Free entry is always nice :p

Was wondering whether you could suggest some innovative, new ways of drawing people early. GO WILD We open to anything

I was going to suggest 2 for one drink specials etc starting at the time you want people to start arriving.
    OR
Reduce the cover charge at the door for those who arrive early.

There is a bar close to our house that doesn't have a cover at all if you get there BEFORE 8PM. After 8, its regular cover for the remainder of the night.

If this is going to be a regular event, we used to get the beer companies to give us little stickers & put about 6 of them under random chair seats. Just before 8 pm we would have everyone to get up, turn their chairs upside down & look under there. If there is a sticker, they get a free "beer" (of that brand). Even if it isn't under their chair, they usually look under the other chairs & get stickers from other places.
Once people learn that you do these type little things, they will start to come in early. Especially if you do little things for the ladies like stickers for 1/2 price drinks all night.

Note: be aware of the laws in your state or municipalities. For example, when I opened a club for a hotel group in Arkansas, we could not reduce the price or give away drinks. Even for happy hour, no 2 for one etc. NO PROMOTIONS to encourage over drinking.

We also used to entice people to come in after work by having vegetable trays, buffalo wing trays etc... a little buffet kinds thingy (horsd'oeuvres/appetizers) during happy hour until 8PM. But I also have to say that we were in a full service Holiday Inn Hotel with a restaurant, so that does make a difference. But, if you need to get them in there, its an idea. Get them used to it & advertise it. Let people know they can come in after work for a drink & some finger foods etc...
