Ok how many people have delt with a bride like this... Also, what would you have done because I was pretty close to packing up and walking out... Pretty long but worth the read
Preface. Through all our prewedding meetings I already knew she was pretty controlling but she is a coworkers daughter and I wanted to help her out. I was able to get her to relax each time before hand too. She booked our DJ services, Photography and Photo Booth.
OK,
My photographer texts me that the bride is being very difficult, yelling at him about the lighting in the room being too bright then too dark. This yelling included a lot of cursing. She was shown how good the pics look and she calmed a little. Then she was brought outside to complete the shots, she didnt want to have to take any pics during cocktail. While outside she started complaining about the sun then the shade. It almost seemed like she just wanted to complain.
Fast forward to intros for the reception. 1st, Intro the venue and introduce ourselves then The parents of the groom, mother of the bride then father of the bride, 3 groups of bridesmaids and groomsmen, matron of honor and best man and then the bride and groom. Everything good. As we go into the 1st dance the bride looks at me and tells me to get the MC to "shut up" meanwhile the introductions up to the 1st dance was barely 3 minutes (looked at the video). My MC intros the 1st song "Bride and Groom would love to share their 1st dance together with you their friends and family. They have chosen to dance to One by Brian McKnight"
As my MC says the song and artist the groom yells "SHUT UP" (got it on video too)
They dance then go right into parent dances like requested and the parent dances were done together.
Dance is over and my MC congratulates the couple and asks the guests to return to their seat for dinner requests.
Bride walks over to me and starts on me because the intros were "waaaaaaaaay too long" I then explain to her that we have to into the venue and we need to let everyone know who we are. And she didnt think we needed to announce the best man as the best man or say the name of the 1st dance song as well as the parent dance songs.
Ok she seems fine now. Dinner music is playing (Boyz ll Men, Sinatra, Dean Martin, Louie Armstrong, Jodeci... She liked 90s rnb and the crowd was all over 30) Some older couples are slow dancing to the dinner music which I always like...
I get about 3-4 songs in and the bride walks over and tells me "I'm bored. Speed this shit up its too slow. I want a party." I tell her not a problem but the venue needs to be able to take and place orders for dinner and that I will try to rush the orders with the venue. I call the venue over to see what we can do and he tells me that once they get the 1st dish out we can go to town. Perfect only 15 minutes.
5 minutes later the bride walks up to my booth stands in the front and proceeds to yell and curse at me because Im not playing dance music repeating the word FUCK numerous times. I get pretty pissed but remain calm. I then call the venue over and I guess he got chewed apart also, so we just go with it and decide to slow it down again after toasts.
Cue the party music, people up and having a great time (only about a third of the crowd that was only about 80 total), everyone else eating.
Now people are comming up to me telling me the father of the bride wants the music down bc its too loud (he was seated directly infront of the booth) so I turn it down a bit, now the bride comes over and yells at me bc the music needs to be LOUD, ugh...
Cue toasts, which were very good and pretty funny, toasts over and I slow it down again for people to eat (Id have to say at least 25% didnt eat because food was taken and replaced)
I only played 3 slow dinner songs then started the party again.
I was sooooooooo fkin pissed after she came to the booth and acted that way that I couldnt think. All I wanted to do was walk out. My cuz who is my photographer calmed me and I refocused. Throughout the afternoon the guests really responded great to the music. It was a small crowd but almost all of them were on the floor all night.
They did cancel the cake cutting then change their mind 4x which was nuts then wanted to do it but didnt want the party to stop. She just wanted us to say they were gonna cut the cake but please dont stop dancing.
Overall the guests were great, groom was ok, bride made me change the way I plan on handleing brides like this but the party was pretty good. Id only like to have lowered the volume a bit but everytime I did i got shit from the bride.
Ive never delt with a bride that was this bad. Ive delt with controlling ones that can be talked to but this was waaaaaaay different then anyone Ive ever delt with. If I ever have an idea that the bride may be like this I wont book them. Its pretty easy to tell and I have no problem just not booking the party.
