...and just to recap one last thing. If you are not doing delay stacks or complex 3-way or 4-way systems then you don't need a delay.

Thanks Coronaoperator, but as i've learned from this post, I no longer require delay. Mostly just the crossover, but i've heard for the price of a good crossover, might as well get a DSP for additional features.

I'm not doing any setup you mentioned in those diagrams, just looking for a crossover and all I can really find is the behringer and the ds24, and the pa+ which was mentioned but I cannot afford.

DBX (cheap DBX anyway) and Behringer are rubbish. Buy a Xilica or BSS. The BBE stuff is also not much chop.

OP, Are you trying to run stereo in this scenario? If so, think about running mono. By doing so, you reduce the number of outputs you need from your DSP since you can use y-splitters to take one output and run it to two speakers. Hence if the DS24 can produce a pair of mono top signals, one delayed and a sub signal (delayed or not depending on your setup at a given venue) then I think it would be sufficient. I won't claim the DS24 CAN do that because I haven't researched it. Check it out. Same goes for the DCX2496. Both are respected units.

Make sure you check the maximum delay a unit can affect. Some are only meant to be used to accommodate minor differences, not to provide delay for fill/satellite speakers placed 10-30 feet out in front of the mains.

One other note. If you set up your speakers all facing the same point like in Corona's 2nd pic, make SURE you tilt the speakers so the crowd absorbs the highs and they aren't fighting each other. In fact, try to aim them so they are pointing not quite to the center. In clubs, an alternative to this is placing say 4 90 degree horiz. dispersion speakers clustered together above the crowd forming a 360 degree outward pattern.

Thanks for the input ampnation, however i'm running stereo. I've never liked the way mono sounds and I don't think i'd ever run it at a gig. I'm pretty sure I won't be requiring delay.

Would you recommend the Ds24? I'm kind of having second thoughts on the Behringer stuff just cause i've had mixed experiences with their products, and I can't really spend that much.

I don't have personal experience with the DS24, but I've been on the forum since I'm guessing 2008 and seen it recommended numerous times. I too have had mixed experience with Behringer. I have a UB802 small format desk mixer which is experiencing channel bleed but my MX882's (2 of them) are holding up fine. I had a DCX2496 too which has a good rep -- bought it used -- but never got around to trying it out and I think someone stole it. It IS one of the items Behringer sells that seems to have a good rep though. (the biggest other example probably being the EP series amps). Also have/had an FBQ2496 feedback suppressor but only used it a couple of times. TBH I didn't know what I was doing much when I was using it, so I can't really give a good review of that piece.

I really don't understand stereo when it comes to sound reinforcement for a fair sized crowd that is always moving about... unless you've got the ability to put speakers way out to the sides of the stage to give a proper stereo effect to everybody pretty much equally, what you end up with is people in the power alley getting stereo and as people move in front of either speaker or beyond, they start getting less and less of the the other side... then adding fill speakers to the mix makes it that much more difficult to get the proper stereo effect. Kinda the same thing as trying to get the proper surround sound on your home theatre when you're not in the middle of the speakers but over in the doorway.

Thanks for the input ampnation. As far as mono/stereo goes, i've never really liked mono. I understand that only the people in the center benefit from stereo, however i've never really liked how mono sounds. I don't like the "summed" sound when both channels are summed. Maybe it's just me but it doesn't sound as well.
