    Equipment Theft

Some people are so stupid. I got to the club last night for my regular saturday night gig. I had played thursday, and also run sound for another dj. Unlocked my booth, and immediatly noticed a turntable platter laying on the floor. I pulled back the cover over my equipment, found the Serato interface gone, one turntable almost falling off the edge, but nothing else taken. We called the police, and showed them what was gone. The manager said when he got there, everything was locked, and I know the side entrance was locked because I unlocked it when I got there last night. They were closed Friday night. So I got to thinking how could someone have broken in when the whole place was locked up...

I remembered when I left Thursday night around 2 am, the other dj and his 2 friends were sitting at a table near the exit. I told them bye when I left. I asked the manager what time they left, he said about 20 mins after I left. But he didn't see the dj, just one of his friends sitting at the table. Where the manager was sitting, he couldn't see the dance hall, just up to the front of the building. He said when they left, the dj and one friend came from the dance hall area, got the friend sitting at the table, and walked out the door. He had a backpack, which I had seen too. Kinda odd huh...

Only a dj or someone who knows sound would know how expensive that interface was. If someone had of broken in, they would have taken other stuff as well. But the $1000 crown amp, the $200 mic, $500 turntables, and speakers were untouched. I didn't know the djs name, just his stage name. When I got home, I pulled him up on facebook, and found his full name and phone number. I called the police back and gave them this info. I doubt he will ever get caught.

I am still covered by my contract, which states theft of equipment is covered by the club. So I don't have to pay for another. But all of my activities have been suspended until I either get the interface back, or am paid the money to replace it. Which means if another dj comes in, they will have to bring their own sound and lighting. I suspended operations, to help gaurd against screwing me over. Let the drama unfold...

Why do people act like this? We are supposed to be a DJ community, not stealing from each other.

    1) How should I know... Ask the client!
    2) If you put it where I can see it, I'm gonna look at it. If you don't want me to see it, keep it covered up.

Say you're interested in buying it, go over to his house, beat the shit out of him and take your interface back. At least that's what I would do.

Sad to hear your story man. I hate people who don't work for what they want and need. All they want is quick and easy.

Hope you get this problem solved soon and the perpetrators caught.

Say your interested in buying it. Go to his house and take a cop, or a bat.. Either one works.

Talk to the police again, if he listed it for sale they'll sort this out REAL quick for you. I hope you keep things like serial numbers, because that's the only way to prove it's yours.
