Thread: Buying a new facade... Which one?

  1. #41
I built mine this week. I used 1x3 boards cut at 45 degree angles, used gorilla glue on the corners and a corner brace on the inside and outside. I made four 4'x3' panels. I am stapling the spandex to apply but slightly worried about it ripping. So I was wondering how dragon does it.

I saw a video on youtube where a dude cuts out an inlay and has a board that snaps in to hold the fabric, so it can actually be changed. I didnt have the tools for that.

Finishing up tonight on last of spandex and then it will be done. $150 total for materials. Will post a picture.

The Dragonboard definitely uses a channel or inlay for where the spandex is attached. Leaving for my gig in 20 minutes... but it's going to be a quick setup, so not sure how much I'll be thinking about it.

    Forgot to take the photo.

Discovered a small rip in the spandex after it's fifth gig... I can imagine this rip will only get bigger if not repaired. How does one repair a hole? Like a nylon, I'm thinking white nail polish will hold it temporarily, but this rip will soon make its way all the way across I'm sure.

This is why I'm holding off on buying one.... instead, black facade with black table scrim.

I use a small piece of tape then just flip the panel so the rip is hidden. Is it around the ridge? I just ordered another piece of fabric to replace it. Suppose to be fairly easy to replace it

I think that's the beauty of using the inlay to hold the fabric, easy to replace. Mine have about 200 staples per panel and will be a pain if it rips to replace. I'd maybe try hand sewing a rip first with white thread before replacing the fabric.
