I always use "earphones". Mobile DJ, mostly doing weddings, yes.. I use earplugs - not big, expensive, professional, club DJ headphones. It works :shrugs:
Jazzy you're real close to me, you're gonna have to come up north and kick it sometime. I'm spinning 3 times a week up here. NS7 and 1200's all day. I'll take a mobile gig here and there when I want to buy something new but for the most part i'm doing this for the love of music.... I think that's what seperates real dj's from fake.

Ask profeckt from cincy, I met him here on DJF. First thing he said when he came to kick it at a gig "you don't wear headphones" lol

Even closer than you think! Lexvegas - right down the road from Cincinnasti They're having a big bridal show up there - but I'm skipping out. From the looks of the vendors - looks like the Cincy Mobile DJ's got that one wrapped up tight!

We do roll up to Covington sometimes tho - to German Town or whatever y'all call it lol Drink a lotta lager n stuff

Not as wrapped up as you think.. one of my mentors got into doing weddings since retiring from actually playing out. First bridal show he did (2011) was David's I believe and he booked 24. There's a lot of wack dj's in the area.

    1. No offense but please stop justifying your non-sense, bragging, cheats on your sets. You are not a DJ if you mainly use visuals like wave riding on your mix sets. It's no different from auto sync.

    2. Not to be rude but I'd like to see you play mix sets (not scratching or turntablism) without headphones on purely CDs or vinyl. No computers or BPM counters. I bet I 99% of the people here will be laughing at you and I would probably have the loudest laugh.

A DJ simply selects and mixes songs together. Sounds like you're a bit butthurt that there are different (easier to use)tools available to do the EXACT SAME THING these days. This said it doesn't make you a SKILLED DJ if that's what you rely on, but you're certainly still a DJ. Remember kids, a DJ is just a DJ, he just plays pre-recorded songs for other people. Sorry to demean your passion or profession but get real. It is usually rather humourous when those who rely on waveforms are stuck playing on something else though... No arguement there.

PS, I spin vinyl near exclusively.

Relying on mixed in key to tell you if two songs will sound good together is a great idea...

Also I guess you can mix with some visual aids. But if you're on a set up that has a waveform display, you're not really a DJ, are you?

    Always headphones. Always.

I can now see who would be lost facing a setup without a laptop

Though to be 100% fair and accurate, those tapes are linked to a computer running maxmsp. I almost got you therehttp://createdigitalmusic.com/2006/0...ers-maxmsp-pc/

    Notice, he's using headphones.

You realize that the top end Pioneer CDJs display waveforms, right?
Everybody is going to have an opinion.
Just do your thing to the best of your ability and have fun with it.
