    korg padKontrol programs?

So I bought a padkontrol from a guy for really cheap, but he didnt have the cd that was supposed to be with it. So did I just buy it for no reason or is there things I can do with it? Or is there a way to download the stuff that is on the original cd? I have checked on the korg site and dont see much of anything. Im not even sure what this thing CAN do? I just bought it because it was cheap and I wanted it. ANy help would be appreciated. Thanks!

It's a MIDI controller. What were you expecting?

Also, if you're on a mac check out FarmPad which offers some really awesome solutions for coding the outputs, as the PadKontrol doesn't have bi-directional MIDI feedback.

Ya I kinda knew it was a midi controller but I also thought it would normally have come with some music production type programs. Guess I should've researched it a bit more than I did! I have checked the links on the korg site but they all seem to be templates? What are those?

The controller comes with a bunch of demo softwares and lite versions (Ableton, IK Samplers (at least mine did), etc.). The templates can be uploaded to the controller to work with different softwares without you needing to MIDI map them yourself. It tells the X/Y pad and two knobs how to interact and what messages the pads send.

There are drivers there, though, you just have to look.

Ok cool. Thanks. So what do the drivers do then? It's sounding more and more like I won't really be using this very much! Haha

Unless I try my hand at producing again, which I doubt.

The software on the site are the drivers so you can use it in applications. It also comes with the editor, so you can load up those templates or create your own. So each template is basically a mapping of the pads, the pads either become notes, e.g. c2, c2#, b1, etc etc, or CC values to send control change parameters so you can tweak things in an instruments. Most instruments have CC values mapped to specific things like 74 goes to filter cutoff, 22 is reverb amount, stuff like that.

Since its midi you can use it in just about any audio app, I havent used dj software recently but Im pretty sure most of them have stuff to fire off samples and the like and you can use it with that. Otherwise you can use it any DAW for audio production, there are some cheap/free ones out there or you can try asking around for someone to either donate or sell you on the cheap a copy of ableton lite
