    New To Lighting

Was looking into something to control a few uplights and the Wash Hex.

I see alot of DJ's using the ADJ Airstream DMX Bridge Wireless Lighting Controller. But I don't have an Ipad

SoundSwitch Control One Professional Lighting Controller. I don't have the Denon Prime which this works with.

ADJ WMX1 Wolfmix Lighting Controller which is $650 which might be overkill?

ADJ MYDMX GO Lighting Control System which would be good but is on back order everywhere!

ADJ DMX Operator 384 Lighting Controller or Obey 40 or 70?

Really would like to set it and forget it.

    Thoughts?

Do your fixtures have built-in wireless DMX control? If so then any kind of DMX controller with a wireless DMX transmitter attached will do the trick and eliminate the need to run DMX cables to all the fixtures. That is the biggest PITA with lighting IMO especially when the fixtures are spread out around a room as you do with uplighting. But I guess that begs the question, are you doing uplighting around a room or is it just some lighting on and around your DJ setup?

As of right now just 2 Chauvet DJ Wash FX Hexes. And yes they can be used with wireless Donners.

Thing is I didn't want them to run just off the music. Wanted to be able to dim them and have different scenes.

That won't be a problem with just about any DMX controller. These fixtures can be configured to have anything from very basic control(3 channels) to very detailed control(40ch) or something in between by setting the number of control channels.
For example if you set them to 6ch they operate as a simple par with 1 control channel per color, you can then create any color you want and save that as a scene or a step in a chase, repeat as many times as you like and just like that you have created a custom program. When you play it back you can adjust the speed and master intensity level on the fly.
If you step up to 11ch mode you get access to all the built-in auto programs in the fixtures along with the basic color control, and the neat thing is you can create a scene that gives you direct access to those auto programs so you don't have to go looking for it.. just press a button to activate/deactivate it.

So what controller to select. You should consider what other fixtures you are likely to add in the future, there is nothing worse than making a snap decision and finding out the controller you pick doesn't work well with or have the features you need for the very next fixture you want to add.

    Thank you for your replys!

Yea just planning on using the 2 Wash Hexes for now then I'll see how things go if I'll add up lighting in the future.
Would the Obey 40 be a good choice for what I want to do? Would the ADJ WMX1 at $650 be over kill?

The Obey40 will do what you have described but it doesn't leave much room for future upgrades.. it's functionality is quite limited.

The ADJ WMX1 is a much much more capable controller, that makes it more complicated to use at first but in the long run you could create much more sophisticated shows with it. Looks like it is a new product as I have not seen it before but it sure looks like a really well thought out solution for performers and DJs.
