When/at what speed should you change songs during your set?

    Hi

A question I pose myself sometimes when I play, is how quickly I should go to the next song in the set.

I tend to play songs quite long, which is liked by some people. But other people like a song for 30s or 1m and then they want the next.

What are your thoughts/experiences? What kind of equilibrium works best for you?

    Kind regards, Matteo Kopriva

read the crowd, you cant make everyone happy. Some people will want quick transitions, some people will want to play the whole song.

use ur judgement and see what the general crowd is doing, if they r digging th esong, let the song play for a minute or 2 max. if majority of them r not feeling it, switch up.

    Rules?
    There are no rules!

Back in the day, cueing up a track, estimating the bars by looking closely at the record then mixing it fast was a real skill to show off.
These days, with digital tracks and sync, it is hardly a big deal.

Some genres like progressive house rather than hip-hop suit well to long blends and leaving a track playing out, but again, NO RULES. Do what you feel is right when it feels and sounds right.
bored, curious, deaf or just bad taste in music?
    finally a mix by me
and what's this, another shoddy mix...another dull mix

depends on the genre, crowd. hip hop crowds want non stop mixing and switching. while house music tends to go for longer, focusing on the build ups and break downs.
