technology that helps you with chords?

can you recommend some technology that helps you with chords?

i think there's a midi keyboard that has lights on it that can tell you chords
any suggestions on such products i want to get back into making music but i need a little help in that area to create something nice

I remember seeing quite a few yamaha keyboards with lights, they're usually aimed at beginners and priced fairly.

My background is in programming as well as music. I have been looking for new ideas for apps or sites. Maybe some sort of online tool for writing chords and notes could be useful.
