    Why professionals choose a macbook?

Hi all, I'm a newbie, and while I use a windows laptop, I write in FL, and I'm wondering why everyone chooses Mac and is it really necessary?

Because some software is designed to be used with Apple software.

    Like how Pioneer's Rekordbox only recognizes FAT12, FAT16, FAT32, and HFS+.
FAT32 is extremely outdated and HFS+ is only compatible with Apple products.

Since Rekordbox has become pretty much the industry's standard for DJs, a lot of DJs just get a Macbook.

But the number of US Supreme Court judges was always 6.
    Then it was 5, then 6, then 7, then 9, then 10, then 7, and then 9.

Anyway I'll chime in with some real life experience.

On Windows I lost count of the blue screen of death, and windows needs to restart for this and that. Last but not least having to keep the machine virus free, I had a severe one 12 years ago. On Mac I had the beach ball of death a handful of times, while loading the thing like a donkey. It also allows me to run an Avid soundcard that is exclusive to MacOs. Overall I'm siding with my mac, by I still need my laptops running other PC software.

Then you can run a Hackintosh, overall it's whatever works best for you

I'm still using Serato SL1. But my DVS laptop (Windows XP) is not connected to the internet.

So I don't really have any current ********** experience.
On some rare occasions, I'll use Abelton Live or DaVinci Resolve. But my current computer is mainly used for Netflix, YouTube, and Steam.

It's always best to have a dedicated laptop indeed, preferably away from the internet.

Windows is a mess, we all know it. OS/X is going to be more reliable and have fewer OS quirks.

THAT SAID, I DON'T USE MACS ANYMORE. Here's why:

    1. They are very expensive.

    2. When they do break, and they definitely do.. no matter what anyone says.. repairing them is very expensive.

    3. Apple goes out of their way to make it hard for anyone but them to repair your laptop (see above).

    4. Sometimes they'll just tell you that your laptop can't be repaired and just buy a new one.. when it totally can be repaired (see above).

    5. All the accessories are obnoxiously expensive as well.

    6. Everything in the Apple system only works right with everything else in the Apple system.. once you are in bed with Apple they make it very inconvenient and expensive for you to break up with them since you have to give up everything at once.

    7. There's really nothing important you can do on a mac that you can't do on a PC, and vice-versa. Almost all the DJing software runs on both, and really you can find almost everything else you need on both.

So yea.. in summary.. sure, I hate Windows.. doesn't everyone? I don't use ANY of the crap that Microsoft wants me to use.. don't have a Microsoft account, don't use Edge, don't use Cortana, or any of the crap they bundle, don't buy Microsoft branded laptops, don't buy stuff from their app store.. none of it.

But, whatever.. I install software on my computer, it runs. That's what I need, nothing more, nothing less. I'm a software engineer but I work in linux anyway so I just install client software on Windows and use that to connect to the linux servers that I do my work on.. it really wouldn't be any different if I had a mac.

AND PS: Despite what everyone says, Windows does not crash all that often anymore. My "new" (used off ebay) laptop, a Thinkpad x380 Yoga.. I got it back in July.. 7 months ago.. I installed everything fresh on it, and.. it hasn't crashed yet. Most of the time I don't even shut it down I just close the lid and I have it set up to hibernate when I do that.. so I don't reboot it except sometimes I have to for updates.

Basically it comes down not to what's better than what, but comes down to how willing you are to pay a lot more for a computer that end of the day does not do much more.

I agree with @light-o-matic. I never used Apple products because I don't really need them. Overpriced, overhyped and I think it's for those who have no time learning how to actually tweak a computer. The most powerful computers are not Macs.

My Dell laptop is now 8 years old. Bought in 2014, 4th gen i5 with 8gb RAM which I upgraded to 16gb and replaced the HDD to SSD in 2017. Never had a problem up to this day which also give mo no reason to change yet. I use it for everything. Installed with Traktor Pro 3, Rekordbox and works flawlessly. I also use it for editing videos, Photoshop, internet, etc. While using it for DJing, the wifi can stay on or off (doesn't matter) as it doesn't affect the performance at all. No lagging or twitching. I'm probably getting a 12th gen later this year because I just want a newer one but the current one will remain as long as it works fine.

Hi, my first post.. I have to just say that I have a Dell G7 laptop (i7, 16gigs of ram, ssd, good nvdio graphics etc. I'm very happy with it and its about 2 years old. I have it pretty nicely tuned and simplified. I run Ableton live, Traktor, and lately serato with it along with Pioneer DJ contorllers, Novation Midi controller, focusrite audio interface, an Alesis Drum Pad. I also produce videos and do much graphic work with Photoshop, Lightroom, After Effects, Premiere etc... I never have any issues besides a limit of 3 USB ports but I'm doing OK after playing around with a couple of USB hubs but Im going to buy a big juicy highly powered one in the near future.... . The only issue I had for Audio was with Recordbox , it ran like a dog, lagged very badly. I read recently it does not support 64bit on windows so I guess that is why unless I just had some other programs chewing up the power that day. But I uninstalled recordbox and went back to traktor and it was like returning home. Traktor just did everything right and with no lag. Lately I have been using Serato as well so I can use my new Pioneer controller with some of the features it came with. Im going to get more ram (32gigs) but its doing fine at the moment.

But yeah, nothing wrong with w10/11 but its better for those who know a little bit about computers. At my audio production course all the younger students all have macs. If you want the easy way then go Mac or you have the cash to just pay to get the job done easier mac will work out of the box.

Hi Sub Breed. Yea, and here it is a year now since I bought my current laptop and it's had no problems yet. I still dislike Windows but it does the job. It's just not worth it to me to pay double the money for a Mac. As a DJ if I were relying on my laptop for a gig (I'm not, since I use rekordbox but then I export and play on CDJ's).. I would rather have two of the same laptop I have.. one for backup.. than to have one very expensive mac laptop and hope nothing goes wrong.
