Deciding on what decks to order

    Hello everyone,

Hope you’re all doing well. My name is Peter and I am massively into Techno and some House music.

I am considering having a go at DJing again. I am trying to decide on what decks I should order if possible. A few years back, I have had a go at DJing with beginner’s decks and had a few goes on proper decks at Uni.

This may be a tricky one. I am hoping to find decks where I can connect songs from Spotify or something if possible, not sure if that even exists! Buying songs for DJing is so expensive lol. I would also like the decks to be cheap but also so when I learn from it, I would then be able to play proper Pioneer CDJs in a club, should I ever do so. I would like to be able to actually learn to beat match without seeing the beats and bars merged together so I can actually beat match purely with ear.

I am thinking ahead here. If it does get to that point, I would also like to do live streams. In order to do this without having very loud music (and annoying housemates/neighbours) but the music will appear on the stream in the quality of a mp3 track if that makes sense, would a sound card be needed? If so, how does it work? If not, how do I go about this? This sounds like a really stupid question lol, I’m not an expert on this aha!

Let me know if you have any recommendations everyone. I understand if it’s a tricky one.

Well if you are having an issue with paying for music, you might be in for a shock regarding the equipment.

Can't do if you're not specifying a budget I'm afraid. Cheapest thing to work on spotify is the pioneer DDJ 200, but then you're opening the door to other problems, as in putting all your music eggs in one online basket.

I completely understand. I know equipment can go to thousands of pounds. I still class myself as a beginner so was trying to see the best option to begin with.

I was thinking along the lines of £200-£300? Very cheap I know lol. I was wondering of what equipment would go with my requirements (pushing my luck I know!) and then see on options from there in terms of budget.

If you have already got decent DJ headphones, a decent laptop (does not have to be the newest, but not a super old or slow one), and some sort of decent powered computer speakers/ monitor speakers or a hifi.... then all you need to buy is a controller with bundled DJ software and yes your budget is reasonable for that. If you are lacking in some of these other items then you will want to save more money or shop for a second-hand deal.

I think a DDJ 200 fits in, that's on budget and on requirements.

As of July 1 Spotify will no longer work with any DJing app:
