Thumbs down Hi, new troubled individual trying to get into the game

    Hi all

So a little about me, I’m from London, around 17 years ago I went to my uncles house and got introduced to DJing, he had 1210s and crates and crates of vinyl, I was instantly fascinated

Couple years later I saved up birthday money and stuff and bought a rubbish cd mixer console with headphones mic and speakers from Argos (don’t laugh at me it’s the best I could afford) cost about £200

Few years of mixing, thousands of burnt CDs and rinsing limewire for everything its worth, and infecting the family computer with many a virus (the porn might have had something to do with it) I kind of got busy with life, girls, education etc

So I fell out of the hobby about 14 years ago around the time Serato had just been invented (or at least gained mainstream popularity with those mixer laptop interface things) so I knew OF it but wasn’t too clued up on DVS

Through the years from a distance I knew about Dj controllers from seeing friends Dj at clubs and seeing wedding DJs and what not

Now I’m married with kids, several months ago it came out in general conversation that I used to DJ as a hobby (I’ve never been interested in gigs clubs weddings etc). This reminder of my past hobby led me to researching the subject and reignited an old flame inside me

Firstly I was devastate to know 1210s are discontinued

Secondly I was shocked at how brilliant even the basic Dj controllers are

Thirdly why did Shure stop making needles

Now i have a little bit of money and not much space. I’m after a Dj controller for the quickness, ease of setup, and lack of space. I wanted a DDJ400 which I could have picked up several months ago for £250 with a free carry case but didn’t buy it thinking this’ll just be a phase and it’ll pass, I have a baby and one on the way and am self employed i work long hours and mostly do 7 days a week

Being on lockdown I am bored sh*tless not working and want to get back into DJing even if it’s just for the lockdown period

DDJ400 is sold out everywhere, and the price has gone up in some places! And just to put a spanner in the works (because it took me a while to settle on this controller) Numark released their new fx platinum which I think looks fantastic so not only am I stuck between these two, but it seems like no one wants to sell me their turntables!

Found the perfect pair on gumtree, the seller wouldn’t reply

Perfect pair on eBay, guy accepted my offer, asked me to come round on the weekend, no follow up email with any details, so a week later I emailed him and he said they were “no longer available”

    Few others not replying

Ones that reply are too far for me to travel or too expensive

I have limited space and we need another wardrobe, but if I get a chest of drawers instead I can fit turntables on them in the spare room (wife won’t be too happy but what else is new lol)

Why does the ddj400 evade me? Why are used techs so hard to buy?

Considering 2 Numark ttx1000 with their scratch mixer as an alternative to techs with possibly a djm 250 (my budget is around 1200 top end)

What do you all think? Which controller out of the 2? Should I forget about turntables? Are the ttx1000 even a worthy contender? I can buy them brand new and they’re in stock everywhere, once lockdown is over they’ll probably collect dust and the wife will tell me I should have bought a wardrobe lol

Sorry if I went on a bit

If you go turntable get the Reloop 7000mk2, closest to Technics.
Mixer...if dvs only, you can do with AKAI AMX. What software you intend?
Controller...Numark attracts me better with the long throw pitch. Platinum version is not a must, the Pro will do, imo.

Hi thanks for the reply, I overlooked the Akai AMX

I was thinking djm250 or Numark scratch

I’m new to the digital Dj world so software wise I have no preference as I have no experience with anything

Ddj400 comes with full record box also it has step by step tutorials which would come in handy for a newbie like me

Serato seems to be the most popular and was the last name I remember before falling out the game years ago

I have just bought a 1200 mk5 single deck so here begins my setup! Next step another deck and a mixer lol

I may still be getting a controller but may hold fire on that for now, in the process of getting a technics dvs setup who needs controllers lol

The Technics is a great start. Now get another one.
Akai AMX is a controller mixer, works only with computer.
Software choice is important b/c it determines the hardware and is not free. Depends if you 're looking for basic or complicated stuff.
Mixxx is free, djplayerpro is for iphone dvs.

Getting one was hard enough lol! Managed to get a bargain on eBay picked it up today absolutely mint saved about 35%! My bid didn’t go through on its partner deck (which was also a fantastic deal) which was a shame, drove 4 hours round trip to pick it up would have been nice to just have both from one trip

Didn’t realise how good Reloop was I’m now very seriously considering one to go with my mk5 or a pair and put the mk5 into storage until I have a big enough house for 4 decks haha

I have a few vinyls so a mixer that isn’t just a controller mixer would be better

Djm 250 looks nice but basic, Numark scratch really appeals to me due to value for money

Pretty much looking at Serato or record box

Now I need to find space for all this stuff

Note that Numark's fx are not onboard, but in the Serato software.

My friend had the 250, it's nice. Feels like mixing on a higher model Pioneer but smaller and the sound is pretty nice, very good deal for the money since the new model (mk2) comes with a rekordbox license and a magnetic crossfader.

But if Serato is what you want I think you need the DJM-S3 or another brand. I could be wrong but I think Serato won't work with the 250.. check me on that...

S3 is so much more expensive, £500 is my top end budget for a mixer, djm250 is rekordbox only I think

Numark scratch seems best value for money, if I get the right mixer I won’t need a controller

Never had any experience with any software so am not really leaning towards any particular brand except Serato and rekordbox as they seem to be the most popular or at least the two names I keep bumping into

There’s Traktor control z2 but I’ve heard Traktor isn’t that good to use

Anyone recommend a dvs mixer £300-500 even if preowned? I’m not too clued up on discontinued products

Traktor works with any soundcard, that's advantage, so you can use any mixer and any soundcard (4in4out).

There are even free options, as mentioned, all depends what/how you mix.
