    Interference/hissing sound from Pioneer DJM-500

Hello. My first post! Hope someone clever can help me please.

I have an old Pioneer DJM-500 mixer. It’s not been used much and spent a lot of its life in its original box so it’s in otherwise very good condition, but I now have a place where I can use it regularly.

However, it appears to have developed an issue.

I have an interference/hissing sound coming from it – or more specifically, I think it’s from the master channel. I say this because when I blow into it hard (!) the noise disappears for about a minute before returning. So it must be something to do with the Master, yes?

What could it be? Could it just be dirt/dust inside? Do I need to get my hoover out?! Or do I need to dismantle it, look inside and see if anything shows up (or is that not to be recommended?) Or something else?

Be great if someone can offer some advice.

    Welcome to DJF!

Hopefully all it really needs is a good cleaning. Use compressed air and blow out all the dust / junk from the channels and pots, and then use an electronics contact cleaner like Deoxit to clean and lube them all.

    Hope this helps.
Ya gotta love corn, it's one of the only foods that says good-bye.

Hey, great to hear from you Mark! Will do just that.

    Really appreciate the quick response.

Thanks and respect from London (UK version!) to Toronto.
