    Thanks Pete,

So video capture is the way forward then.

I am sure I am missing something, but what is the advantage of physically routing the audio in through Winamp rather than just playing the file on PC?

Any recommendations on what video capture program to use?

I was probably getting confused with just playing an mp3 and live performance...my bad.
Just play the track on winamp and capture the screen.

Video screen capture aint really my thing, but there is certainly hundreds of free programs online.
I use a (free) program called shotcut to edit home movies and prepare video for youtube, I've had good results.
bored, curious, deaf or just bad taste in music?
    finally a mix by me
and what's this, another shoddy mix...another dull mix

It creates patterns and forms in sync with the music.

I use Camtasia Studio, but it’s expensive. I think VLC will work, and it’s free. I’m told the Xbox App that comes free in Windows 10 will do the job as well, but I’ve never tried it.

Which it also does if you just open the file in Winamp.

Thanks - yes, the windows game at thingy will do it, although I disable all that nonsense over paranoia about audio latency etc.

Just wondering what sort of quality the audio is captured in. I will do some research and find out.

Ah yes my response was not complete. It's useful for live shows.

I use to have milkdrop connected to a projector, and would light the ceiling up above the crowd, nice little bit of lighting, and dynamic with the real time response (y)

On a Mac, Quartz Composer is provided by Apple. You can build up visuals using that as well (and it's free). There's a learning curve, though.

I made a few videos for some old tracks using Winamp / Milkdrop and used a free video capture program called OBS Studio to capture.

Nice and simple, exactly what I was hoping for.

If you are interested.. I uploaded them to youtube and put some links in this thread

May have given me the itch to look into video production in a bit more detail. That's the last thing I need though.. more distractions to stop me from finishing tracks off...
