I'm wondering if it will work well with a normal laptop that's under $1,000?
Or if you'll need a high performance laptop or MacBook Pro that will probably cost you another two or three thousand dollars?

I'm pretty sure it will work with a laptop under $1000. Even a laptop around $1000 today is no slouch, you will get one with at least a n i5 processor and sufficient RAM.

To the original question, should you buy it, well, do you need a new controller or are you just having a bit of gear acquisition syndrome?
It seems like a good controller and the price isn't too bad for a large controller with all these functions.

    More like gear fantasizing syndrome.

I almost never use my DDJ-SR any more. I prefer just using SSL & a Windows XP laptop with my record players. If my laptop or SSL1 box ever dies on me I'll probably just replace one of them instead of upgrading my system. I can't imagine my Rane TTM 56S ever needing replacing & good record players last forever.

I have pair of CDJ 2000nxs and a DJM 900nxs that I use with Serato in in DVS mode with a pair of dicers. I am really considering trading in my system and getting this unit. Still having that familiar feel and better access to Serato features seems like a good idea for me.

Can you guys suggest any reason not to make the jump? I personally feel like I am downgrading. I was originally gonna buy a Rane 72 before i saw this unit.

If they were NXS2 I might agree since three components in three cases is easier to move than one big component in a coffin. But since you are talking about equipment that about is ten years old or older. I would think the DDJ-1000SRT is a definite upgrade.

Frankly I would at a minimum add a DDJ-XP1. Trigger pads are a gazillion times more convenient than Dicers in my opinion.
