    Music Genres

    Hi all;
    I have thousands of tracks that when I ran them through a tagging software, it overwrote all the genres.
    Not sure how that happened, and being forgetful, forgot to do a backup first, I am wondering if there is any platform that can scan the music and assign the correct genres.
    Does something exist? Do you guys know of anything?
    Thanks in advance

    An Mp3 tag software with a link to an online database will bulk rename the tracks and add genres etc.
    There are plenty to find from a quick search online.
    Just make sure to back them up somewhere if the renaming goes wrong. again.
    bored, curious, deaf or just bad taste in music?
    finally a mix by me
    and what's this, another shoddy mix...another dull mix

    EDIT: Hope you're not a Mac user...

    Nothing wrong with using a Mac, but finding free utilities is a little more difficult than with Windows. You might look into an app called TuneUp (40 per year or $50 lifetime subscription) by TuneUp Media. A second choice might be Equinux's SongGenie 2 for $30.

    Of course, you can use a Windows machine to fix the tags, either by making a copy of your music library, or sharing the library on your Mac across your home network. I have my iMac and Linux computers on my home network and share files among all my computers. It works quite nicely, because I can choose the application that works best for the task at hand, regardless of OS.

    Just like Bobcat said, that's fine and macOS is a better OS than Windows, but unfortunately finding free and open source apps is not as easy, probably because the platform is not as popular among general computer users. And it's a pity, because most free software is developed in Linux and BSD systems, and both are Unix-based just like macOS, which makes them easier to port to macOS than it is to Windows. Since OSX, macOS is based on Darwin, which itself borrows heavily from FreeBSD, a free Unix-based OS that has a lot in common with Linux.

    Anyway, many free apps end up getting ported to macOS.
    Check these ones out, both are available for macOS:
