    Looking for resources to learn?

Recently acquired a controller and traktor and would like to learn to DJ but i'm really struggling to find any comprehensive step by step spoon feeding guides on how to mix.

I've got looked at some videos on phasing, beat-matching, mixing etc but i have no idea how to turn this theory into DJing, like it hasn't mentally clicked yet and i need some help to actually get my head around everything.

I had the same conundrum when I started, and it ain’t easy. Best advice I can give you is practice, practice, practice. If you can find an experienced DJ in your area who’s willing to teach you in exchange for a little help loading in/out and setting up, JUMP ON IT!

    Hey,

Exactly what Bobcat said! Get a dj bud or someone who can show you the way. You can then practise what you have learnt when on your own. If not then Youtube tutorials, but I know what you mean some can be quite tricky to get your head round at first.

It was a nightmare for me but with loads of practice it will eventually start to click into place. It will take time but you just have to persevere with it. Spend as much time as you can practising and it sounds lame but the best advice I can give you is to never become disheartened and to just enjoy it. Also be consistent with your practising. I spent months and months train wrecking but it's well worth it.

This forum is fantastic this is basically where I got all of my informationfrom so ask as many questions as you like here

Ella Skins is a good watch on Youtube.

Rock The Dancefloor: The proven five-step formula for total DJing success is also a great read!

    Hi,

when I started I bought the book "DJing for Dummies" which give a very broad and structured view on DJing with all the basic concepts. It doesn't go very much into details however. Then, on youtube, DJ TLM and DJ Carlo Attendido (who focuses on controllers) are quite helpful :

I also really like the "art of DJing" articles which I find very inspiring : (but you need first to be familiar with the DJing basics I think)
