Headshell what would you buy
Looking for a headshell for my 1200s which retire from DJ use to now hifi use.
I see these new technics ones for $80 bux with the weight seem ok maybe a bit pricey but then jumping up to something that’s better than the old ortofons I’m not sure.
I thought there would be oodles of info out there but it always comes back to the stylus. headshells seem not that amazing. I see clear audio do a model for about $500 but I don’t know. Like the idea of being able to adjust the azimuth which my current ones did.
Anyway was surprised not heaps more out there. I know there are heaps the idea is to buy a few and have them ready to change when needed.
Stylus to be used will be all MM
Clear audio maestro v2
Shure m44-7 (new [old ones being retired as spares unmounted])
Ortofon bronze
TBA mono cart still researching
TBA Dynavector MC might dabble in but will find phono stage first even though I beleive my amp does unofficially support it but I will have to have a play when it does all get setup. Schitt I’m looking into
There are some strong opinions from what I have seen and as far as looks and performance goes the technics just seems the winner?
I’m open to all info on this including any thoughts on stylus. Can’t wait to to get this thing put together. House still another 3-4 months away custom Mogami carpet pythons arrived yesterday so all the bits are there and every week passes with a a few more lps to the collection just wish I could hear them. Still djing every weekend is the closest I get while we live in temp accommodation with all our stuff in storage. Better be worth it lol

I would like to know this as well. The M3D Technics I just purchased did not have headshells included, and I’m wondering if I need to pay the extra for Technics original parts, or if something else would work better. I am planning on using Shure M44-7 carts.

I went from Technics headshell with 447, to Stanton 680, 890SA (with Stanton headshell), Trackmaster 2, Ortofon nightclub and back to Technics headshell with 447.

Headshell? Are we just talking about the part where you can attach the cartridge? Then anything that fits the technics tonearm will do. Just find one with a good price and a look you like.

One of my Technics turntables are at my mom's house now. I fitted it with the Ortofon Red 2... it's a great sounding cartridge and looks pretty damn slick with the custom headshell if you ask me. Worth it imo...
I also own a Denon DL 110 that I use to transfer vinyl to digital, also a great cartridge with nice high output...

Yes It is about the actual part you mount the cart to. I went for a technics because hey it looks damn fine. Plenty of good stuff out there and I would think the basic knockoffs you can get from china for a few dollars would be more than adequate but since I'm trying to get this rig back to looking like HI-FI i have to go that nonsense bit beyond to try and achieve the best I can do (Within budget LOL) now i think about it HIFI and budget don't belong in the same sentence Anyways thanks for all the input.
