The loop halving technique in flux mode (Traktor) is a cool way to add some tension during buildups or to create buildups on the fly, while maintaining the phrases matched as you exit the loop (if mixing).

I'm in to the Digweed style of mixing so using the loop function to keep the energy near the end of the outgoing track helps a lot. I will tend to use 8 or 16 beat loops, which can sound more natural than a 4 beat loop as if there are any repetitive noises they can come around too quickly with a 4 beat loop and it sounds obviously looped.
