I’ve used them both and the 1240 has a much better torque and is new. Anyone paying $500 for a 30 year old unit should think twice. The turntablists are all getting away from 1200s. The dmc champs are are on superoems. Dj Brace, Vekked, etc etc

Because it has more torque then it must be better. Exactly why I sold my Str150s and went back to Technics, I did not like having too much torque. And no it did not cost me 500.
Regarding the what DJ is using what mention. John 5 plays on Telecasters only, so Telecasters are better, right? Or are Fender Stratocasters better because Clapton plays them? Or Gibson is best because Slash plays on that...

Having more torque doesn't mean it's better. 1200's torque has been the industry standard for decades and nobody complained nor asked for more. Because if someone did, how heavy are his hands. He should therefore go back to practicing on how to handle turntables properly.
I have worked on super OEMs before and I tell you, their built and internal components are junk! It's a joke that Hanpin (manufacturer of super OEMs) install lead plates just to make their decks feel heavy but the plate doesn't really serve a purpose. The PCB boards fry when you de-solder/solder using just 40w soldering iron. The wires used are really made of poor quality and the list goes on. Don't get fooled by cosmetics and torque.
Numark's TT-500/TTX is so much better than those 1200 copycats. And yes, $500 for a used 1200 is fair. Just in case you don't know, it's the Rolex of turntables when it comes to resale value. It's the Toyota of turntables when it comes to reliability and parts availability.
Well, to each his own. I won’t pay that for old ass turntables that I don’t know what is wrong with them. My turntables are going strong and have been around for like 8 years and still stand as one of the best superoems. My buddy left 1200s to go to 1240s and then missed his 1200s so sold the 1240s and went back to 1200s and now sais he’s done experimenting and he knows that the better turntable is the 1240. I get on 1200s and they feel like crap to me. Just cause they will last forever , which they don’t is not a good enough reason for me. The performance on the 1240s is for me and many others. Enjoy your 1200s but you could never convince me to buy one unless it’s in good condition cosmetically and about $250 with headshells and stylus.

That’s should say enough for most but I understand that their is a cult for 1200s and I get it, the 1200 is iconic and legendary but the bottom line is that it’s old as hell, lol. I can get past the status and still say I want new and performance and I have it.
