So I'm sitting around Thursday night reading Facebook, and a DJ friend of mine from Dallas, (Joe Walker) puts out a request that a visiting DJ to Austin, needs a pair of 1200's for a practice session, for an upcoming gig they have at SXSW in Austin Texas. SXSW is a music event here in Austin Texas. It stands for South By Southwest, and it last for a whole week during spring break. He just needed to practice on them for a couple of hours. Nobody wanted to volunteer their turntables to a complete stranger, so I stepped up and volunteered my tables and mixer, since I live in Austin. So I send the DJ my number, and he calls me up a few minutes later. He tells me his name is DJ Charlie Chan Soprano, and he is the DJ for RUN-DMC. I'm thinking, "sure you are", because every old DJ I meet, tells me he used to work at Studio 54, and every old person I meet, tells me they where at Woodstock. I tell him I'll let him borrow my setup, but I got to be right there in the room to keep an eye on the tables. He said, no problem. So I show up at the recording studio the next day. A few minutes later, in walks in DJ Charlie Chan, and the whole band from RUN-DMC! It seems they wanted to practice their whole concert that they where going to play the following night! So I got to sit in the recording studio, with RUN-DMC playing their whole concert, 10 feet in front of me, with the DJ scratching on my Golden Bad Boys. They even paid me for renting out the tables. It was freaking awesome! Later on, they gave me VIP tickets to the concert, and I got to hear it all over again. I told DJ Charlie Chan, next time he comes to Austin, he can borrow my setup any time he wants! Here is a picture of Charlie Chan scratching his ass off on my golden bad boys:
He was impressed with the tables, and loved my one of a kind, polished and gold, custom Crane Laptop stand.
Here is the whole band, they are actually called DMC now, since Reverend Run, no longer tours.
Here is Mr. Darryl McDaniels, lead singer for DMC, and original founder of RUN-DMC.
And here is me and the wife, enjoying last nights concert.
