    What lights do you recomend?

What lights do you recomend? I have been looking at some chauvet lighting. My budget is max $200. I am hoping to get them around $100 to $150. Their is the chauvet fx which has all in 1 but i am afraid to buy one and if it went out oh well. Anyone got any advice?

Start with washes & a t-bar stand first. Flat LED PARs, or the Colorstrip (Colorstrip Mini) are a great start. Wash lighting is the foundation of your show, from which you can add effects onto. Also meant to say, that you can get a simple 4-16 channel DMX controller, or step up to a computer based solution like Freestyler or MyDMX to control your show, once you've gotten your lighting rig started.

Full color LED pars should be a nice start.

Those are cheap, you can actually get them cheaper on EBAY($54). I have some, used them for up-lighting, did OK for that, I wouldn't use them for what you are thinking, they wont be bright enough. Guitar Center has their Proline Thintri38's on sale for $66 which is as cheap as you will find. I would get 2 of those(I actually have 2) before I would buy the cheap pars. Or stretch your budget and get 4 of them...

Depends what you are doing. The recommendation of Wash lights or Pars... very bad in some cases. starting with a few simple FX lights would serve you better, which is a push at your budget.

The best advice would be to avoid the random look and try maintain some consistency with your set up, as you expand. However, for those who don't see that error by default, they lack a certain characteristic from their genome to ever understand.

I will add... the Washes, Led Pars will serve you longer. As you out grow the cheaper FX light the Par will serve other purposes in your rig, yet the cheaper FX will be bin material, holding little resale value, apposed to a more expensive effect. If you can get more money, waste it (as it won't be wasted), resale value is a huge factor here.

mitchiemasha - your posts contradict each other. And your first post is the complete opposite of what is always recommended, which is start with wash lights first. And since this is 2017, avoid effects lights altogether and invest in a pair of moving heads. But always start with wash lighting, whether it's par or strip.

Exactly! That's why i started it with 'i will add... ' highlighting a positive that goes against my 1st post, as it needed to be said, others will have only corrected me with it. My 1st post also started with 'depends what you are doing' which leaves it open.

As for moving heads, i class those as FX lights. Back to washes... If a DJ only has these, it can be seen as very lack luster in comparison to a few FX, that could be cheaper. An average Joe could think you've turned up with pennies, when really they can cost a lot. It depends on what type of events you are doing, age range, class, area and what they are used to seeing.

I know about lights and if I booked a DJ and he only had washes, i'd feel ripped off. Unless i'd specified no beam fx and a lot of mood, uplighting etc.

I agree with most here, start with wash /up lights. Since your budget is less than what I spend taking my family out to eat, cheap china knock offs from eBay should work. Later on buy a 3 or 4 channel DMX controller ($30) to have more control of those cheapies. With $200 you may get like 6 of them directly from China. I suggest the ADJ RGB3C controller or the Chauvet Obey3.
