Again, a wide variety of digital mixers have had motorized faders for, oh I dunno, getting on a decade now?

    But they aren't DJ mixers.

But you wouldn't want them on DJ mixers. The original point was to have the ability to adjust levels from the floor for mobile gigs right? And then someone said "but this would cost a million dollars", so I pointed out that, actually, it's common tech, and therefore it's not a crazy idea to want it in the sort of small mixer you might use for a mobile gig.

Motorized faders have existed on large format consoles since the middle 80s.

Why not? If you could use an iPad or Android to communicate wirelessly from the floor to adjust faders that would seem useful.

IDK. I'm not familiar with Yamaha's old crap. The studioLive stuff will allow you to control it with an iPad app, and it's actually pretty cool, but the faders do not actually move.

I'm still not sure why that's relevant. The StudioLive stuff, for example, allows you to do exactly that without bothering to move the faders.

Granted, I think that's an issue with the StudioLive, but that's for completely different reasons. There's no reason you'd want to write automation during a DJ set and have it play back and be editable from the fader after the fact.

    You already can.

Touchable, touchosc, lemur, etc. already exist. They just don't move faders on physical mixers. I also can't figure out why you'd want to do it that way, but that doesn't really matter since I might be the only person in history to want an all-digital rotary.

Okay so I'm pretty sure I just had the studiolive and 01v96 mixed up regarding the motorized faders thing so now I'm trying to figure out how you can remotely adjust faders but they don't move. When you get back to the physical console how would you know where they're positioned? Let's say you left it at 25% then used remote to move to 75%. Does moving the faders now to 0 give you 50%? How do you achieve 0 with the physical faders?

I'm not sure how the pickup happens, but there's a button on it that changes the level+everythingelse meters to show where the faders are. I'm sure there's a way you can set it to just not pay attention to fader changes until it hits the point where it's software says they should be.

Ableton Live does something similar (called MIDI Pickup Modes) to work with control surfaces that can access more channels than there are physical faders without requiring them to be motorized……like the APC20/40.

The lack of motorized faders on the StudioLive really only affects automation, and I think they probably have thought of a way to deal with that that I'm just not aware of. They're actually pretty freaking impressive devices for what they are.
