In my region (NYC) and DJ demographic (urban, hiphop, R&B, reggae, soca and REAL HOUSE MUSIC aka not EDM)........
Sync simply does not exist....Period. There is no such thing as a RESPECTED dj that uses sync where I'M from.
My region/demographic is so anti sync that even the trash dj's who could truly benefit from using it would never even consider it in public. If The word got out that you used sync you would be ridiculed mercilessly in person, on all social media, laughed at by your peers and banished to bedroom djing only or weddings. Sync is essentially suicide to the working professional dj's in my circles.

Yup yup. Mine too. Controllers are accepted if you are good.. but you will not be taken seriously if you sync.
No, it isn't closed minded at all.
It is a very sensible response to the reality that there are too fucking many "DJ's" in NYC that are out there trying to be the big man in front of a crowd when they've not worked hard enough on developing their style, developing their feel and understanding of the flow of a party and what they are supposed to be doing up there. Lots of ego, not enough understanding.
It is amazing the crap that is out there. Bad taste, or good taste, but with no idea when to play what.. fucking up the flow of parties... people banging out full bore music in opening sets, trying to outdo headliners.. etc. Redlining/distortion, lack of understanding of how mixing style affects the feeling at the party, bad sound in general, poor quality, not getting on when you are supposed to, not getting off when you are supposed to, bad transitions between DJs, etc.
So yea it is not about sync itself, it is about the way that sync makes it possible for people who aren't actually decent DJs yet to get in front of a crowd and be bad without actually trainwrecking, so it deludes them into thinking they actually know what they are doing. When people had no choice but to do everything manually it forced them to spend some time on the decks really getting to know their music and how it goes together. And to pay attention to how the other DJs did it. They had to learn to LISTEN. Now a trained monkey can beatmatch any two tracks and jam them together perfectly and they are super happy with every mix.. actually they have no idea whether it really sounds good because they're not really hearing it. I've observed it time and time again.
So yea, sync is absolutely fine.. if it's used by people who actually DJ well.
And pretty much all those people don't need it.
See what I mean?

I can't rely on my sync button anyway. It works fine for House stuff and most digital music, but I'm a mobile DJ most of the time people want to hear stuff from all different types of genres which includes music recorded with an actual drummer and my software isn't fancy enough to perfectly match the beat to a drummer who didn't use a metronome.
