I don't quite agree with statement 1 fully. I have played on an awful lot of equipment, and it's always easier to spin on better equipment. Sometimes it really is that much easier. It just has that extra smoothness, reliability, and ability to hold a pitch more precisely, and for longer. I have managed to pull out decent mixes out of horrid belt drives and other things made of plastic, but it wasn't easy. As in, don't touch the deck, don't even you dare look at it or it's going to make noise in the mix
That said, it's true, being able to pull it off is what separates the men from the boys. Seen a few being lost in the woods because they relied on autotuned since day one, and would be completely out of bounds if facing a pair of those plastic belt drives... It does bring back the old saying, it's not how good the gear is, it's how good the sound that comes out of it.
That said, better gear gives a bit of an edge.
