I think we should do just one mix. 15-20 min your genre, 15-20 min your opponent. What do you guys think, kill two birds with one stone.
Proposed rules (so far):
1. Each DJ will select 5-8 tracks to send to their competition partner (listed in the table made by Interracial Tea)
2. The final track of the mix MUST start before the 30min mark
3. Each DJ will be allowed two weeks to make a mix from the tracks provided
4. Each DJ will select tracks for their competition partner thoughtfully (i.e. no sandbagging your competition with a fistful of shitty tracks that won't go together)
5. All tracks must be exchanged before the two-week countdown starts (perhaps everyone should report back to this thread when they have their tracks?)
6. Sync is a no-no, as it kind of defeats the purpose of this competition.
7. Minimal post-production is allowed (limiting, slight compression, normalization, or other level corrections to produce a listenable mix)
8. Significant post-production is not allowed (edits, multi-tracking, overdubbing, or other creative changes)
9. We're all in this for the fun. Don't ruin the fun for others by being a dick.
Did I miss anything? Does anybody want to include anything else?
The only reason I say one mix is because I think it would be cool to hear a hip transition to edm and vice versa.
The rules I was thinking of when I started this thread were: -
It's basically a 2 team battle. Hip-hop Vs. EDM, so DJs are matched up in pairs.
The mixes are 15 minutes long and there no rules other than they must be recorded live and with no post-production.
Each DJ submits 2 mixes (not both at the same time though!) - one of their own genre and one of their opponent's.
Ideally, the DJs would swap tracks so both mixes feature identical tracks.
Each win for the DJ scores 1 point for their team, with a bonus point awarded if a DJ wins both rounds as that should theoretically be tough to do.
I didn't mention the swapping tracks thing at the time cos I thought it wouldn't go down very well with the mods, but it does make sense to do it like that IMO and it's not like I would keep 6 or 7 trance tunes or suddenly start playing trance gigs with my ill-gotten gains, lol.
Also, with 15 minute mixes people are more likely to listen IMO. With 30 minute mixes people might be well into the first set of mixes that goes up, but then I could see interest dropping off.
Oh yeah, and I didn't want to set a "no auto-sync" rule - nor any other rule related to equipment - because I want DJs to mix how they would normally mix. Auto-sync isn't cheating and if a DJ that doesn't use it thinks it's an unfair advantage then tough luck I say.
Those are just my thoughts - I started this thread, but I probably won't even get involved in it, lol, so I certainly have no more right to set the rules than anyone else.
I ilke the look of these rules![]()

I like your ideas too man, team thing is a good idea. I like the idea of having 2mixes from each Dj but realistically if they are 30 mins each they wont get listened too & I dont think that a 15 min mix would work too well for most EDM, its fine for hip hop as you can smash out quite a few tracks in that time, so IMO 1 mix from each Dj is gonna have to be how we run it, how do the rest of you feel about this?????

I think trying to judge a hip-hop mix vs. a trance mix or whatever would mess the whole thing up to be honest, Chris.
1. If people are sending each other tracks, the potential is there to shaft the opponent, or at least, for arguments to occur.
2. The anonymity of the battles is gone, cos if it's me Vs. a trance DJ and we do a straight genre swap, everyone would know it's me doing the trance mix and vice versa.
3. And the biggest problem - Judging. I don't see how you can say "this trance mix is better than that hip-hop mix", generally speaking.
I do understand the thing about 15 minutes not being enough for most EDM, but I would rather just see the time limit for the EDM mixes extended to 30 minutes, then you avoid all of the problems above.
