These are the complete steps to a thorough check: http://www.padrick.net/Hi-Fi/PhonoHum.htm

I would run a meter test on the ohmage because of how you describe it. Also I would tend to think about the almost inevitable cable problem on technics turntables, but that's pretty much the worst case scenario. Try cleaning the tonearm connections with a dry Q tip if you haven't done so already.

Is the hum dead center or is it going through the left or right channel?

:edit: also one last trick, try swapping only just the ground cables on the mixer itself to rule out a fault from the mixer.

A bit late to reply but is there hum if you connect directly into the mixer?

Hums can be caused by Electrical magnetic fields from refrigerators, lights on dimmer switches, fans- ceiling fans- fans with switches, some HDTV's, lack of humidity in the room, the electrical outlet (two prongs versus three prongs issues), household ground loops, and stupid human errors hooking up their system.

I know this is an old post, but I just finally gotten around to fixing this turntable.

I changed the RCA cable and did an internal ground mod. This did the the trick... for the most part. I still notice that there is a bit of a hum when I turn on the turntable. My other Technics 1200 is dead silent on or off.

In the process of changing cables and getting rid of the crazy hum I had before I have thouroughly checked all ground wires and they all seem to be fine. I'm not getting any crazy hum right now. Just that low hum I can hear when I turn on the turntable. It's not something I can hear when the music is playing, at least not at home, but I'm concerned what that will do if I take them out and hook them up to a larger system. I'd like my new'er turntable to be as quiet as my old Technics 1200.

Since this hum is only present when I turn on the TT, is it safe to say that there is a problem witht power supply?
