    Should every DJ..

    .. have an instrument (in the studio or on the road) for figuring out song keys? Makes sense to me at least and it can do no harm either..

    Unless you're making your own music, I don't see why with all the available software options that can do this for you.

    I don't think this is the same as saying all djs should learn how to mix manually before using sync.

    I use online tuning forks. Just because I've got the PC in front of me.

    Rek's right. There are a million and one ways of doing this. Use an instrument is a perfectly viable way though, assuming that instrument hasn't gone drastically out of tune.

    Oh but aren't software synths instruments too..

    I used to have an acoustic guitar and a book or two of sheet music to keep me company when I was doing mobile DJ gigs..
